I used to be a national athlete, tennis player, and was never really gym fit and was always stick thin.

I injured my back last year (damaged disc - nothing major, but I still have to be careful), so I decided to get in shape at the gym instead.

I hired an elite trainer, who has worked with me for one year. I look much more muscular, but haven't exactly gained weight. I'm 5'10 140lbs, and I really look like I've worked out hardcore. That's what the women said in my last beach trip.haha

Anyway, I now work full time and I don't have room to make a schedule to workout with a trainer or go to a gym. So I was thinking of bodyweight training at home. Is it possible to do this and gain weight/muscle at the same time???

The answer is probably no .....unless you have the necessary equipment at home, join a gym like everyone else does.

Yes--it's possible. You have to use weights though. The equipment would be a sizeable investment...buy the equipment secondhand.
Sound advice! Quality gym equipment like dumbbells, bars and weights can last decades. I'd be more prone to replacing anything with a cable or tension type system every 10-15 years though.

Yeah you would have to invest in a good adjustable bench. Adjustable plat loaded dumbbells, good barbell.

Than on top of it get a power rack so you can do squat movements like front squats, seated shoulder press and say incline barbell bench press with safety pins in place.

Possible, yes. Will it cost a good chunk of change ? possibly. Checkout Craigslist.com for people selling stuff I mentioned, you can sometimes find awesome deals as a lot of people are in desperate need of money.

You would save a good amount of money though in the long run, but the cons would be variety of exercises will be some what limited. As I like to do both barbell work and machines/cable stuff. Yet if you have enough room you can just add stuff as the years progress and you get bigger.

All in all I know people who have done it and got great results so ....but as far as body weight work . It's not optimal and your gains will stagnate eventually as far and strength/size goes. You can only do so much with your body weight.

I would just find a good gym like powerhouse/bodybuilder friendly place and just talk shop with all the people who lift and learn learn learn.

If you asked your "elite" trainer to help you put on weight, and a year later you weigh 140lb, sue the bastard! that or you are doing somthign really wrong.

If you want to get bigger, just eat more, A LOT more.

That and do squats, deads, Presses, pull ups.

Cure.

Since you didn't mention anything about diet, I assume that it's rubbish.

Muscles don't come from thin air. You don't get big in the gym, you do so in the kitchen. You gotta eat heaps to get big.
