I believe that Texting was a big part of why my last relationship failed. She used to text me alot, about anything from "God work sucked today" to "What are you doing tonight :p" and i used to reply pretty quickly in the early days and when i didn't reply pretty quick (to act like i was busy ie be a challenge) she became all worried and queried me about it. I used this to my advantage but think i overdid it.

She turned the tables and did the same thing on me, taking a while to reply to my Text messages...eventually, i didn't even bother using them and she figure i was ignoring her, but when we were together eg in person, it was great..heaps of talking and touching. But the texting did become a big issue.

I am learning from my mistakes!

Now, should we EVER use texting or chat (eg msn) to talk to our ladies ? Please give reasons.

Thank you!

no.

We are too busy - if she wants to talk to us, she'll call or meet us in person (dates). That's it.

I agree with Dee-Zy

you are far to busy, and it's nice to occasionaly sms but it is nothing compared to hearing her voice over the phone ;)
I rarely sms or chat with women on msn and if I do I keep it realy short

Kodiac, ive been in the exact same situation man.

She used to text me ALL the time and if i didnt reply she'd get really annoyed and ask why i didnt text her back etc. But when we were out we got on very well.

In Ireland we text ALL the time, its way more popular than ringing. E.g. when you meet a girl and get her no. its the norm to say "Ill text you soon" rather than "Ill ring ya soon".

Weird but true!

Are you "the norm"? Or are you "the exception?" ;)

Yeah, he's the norm.

I don't think people (read: "You Americans") should get so uptight about sending SMSs, getting their cell instead of their fixed line, etc. It's not even new tech anymore, this has been around for over 10 years now, get over it! Use what mode of communication is right for the moment.

My LDR with my ex would have never been possible w/o cheap text messages to stay in touch - international call charges here would have killed us if we called everytime we'd something to say.

Be flexible.

Eircom... bastards!! :p

Ya know guys, i think ill go all "american" on this and maybe just ring a girl from now on coz the last girl i was texting seemed to pick some of my messages up the wrong way and i did the same with some of her messages!

SO maybe ill just say to the next chick i bag: "Hey i dont text ppl anymore, so ill ring ya", she'll have a confused face on her after that but i think its for the best! Oh and phone conversations are much more intimate and personal. Well i think so anyway! :)

yea its mad in the UK with txting. everyones a txt junkie - i had 300 free txts a month on my phone at one point.

losing that phone was the best thing i ever did! its bad cuz you never really know for sure if (when u dont get an instant reply) if youre being ignored, or if the person is genuinely busy, has no credit etc. and it works against you vice versa

and its not exactly assertive.

Thanks guys for your input, once again, very helpful and appreciated.

Here in Australia, it's basically like that as well..everyone text's! And yeah, when you are used to getting a reply straight away ie your GF carries her phone with her everywhere! then u think somethings up..and vice versa.

So heres what im thinking now - start off the relationship with next to no text's, if you do, keep them rare and make sure she doesn't expect you to reply to her text's straight away - if you sent her no text's then she wouldn't expect this now would she!

So 0-rare texts coming from me now on. No more chat or email's unless required or a one off.
And phone conversations still kept under 10 minutes, if she wants me..she can come and get me :p
