If you're a naturally thin framed man like myself than you've probably dealt with the physical barriers of being unable to lift much weight. I'm half indian and it sucks having thin wrists and ankles cus they're always getting sprained and twisted and if you add lankiness onto that than you know how frustrating getting big can be.

I've recently uncovered a solution to this problem that has helped me deal with this affliction so I no longer feel uncomfortable wearing shorts or short sleeves. Well.....I basically figured it out when I worked for a moving company last summer but for those who don't pick up couches, entertainment centers, and dressers on a regular basis we need a workout regiment to add thickness to our wrists and ankles. Calf raises work my calfs but my ankles still remain thin and wrist curls work my forearms more than my wrists. Some lifters will tell you to squeeze tightly when you lift (which IS important) but if you don't have the wrist strength to begin with you're just be exerting less energy on the muscle group ie. chest than you'll be able to handle. Here's my workout. Its quite simple

Have you ever watched the Strongman competitions where they carry 2 giant weights and walk as far as they can back and forth for as many feet as possible. IT'S THAT SIMPLE. Grab 2 relatively heavy weights (i'm 5'11 155lbs and use 50lb dumbells to 70lb) and walk a straight line as far as you can til you drop. I do this in my backyard cus it feels weird at the gym. Keep trying to beat your previous distance each time and if you can do it on stairs even better. After 2 weeks of doing this every other day I feel like a million bucks and I lift much more when I go to the gym. My lifting endurance has increased aswell as my grip and balance. For all the skinny wristed/ankle people out there......there is hope and you can wear those shorts and tank tops wherever you go.

There is no exercise that will increase the size of your frame, ie, your BONES. Your wrist is almost completely bone and tendon (same with your ankle), you're not gonna make it any bigger so learn to live with it. Adding mass to your arms, especially your forearms, will give the illusion of having a larger frame, however.

No this won't increase the size of your frame, obviously.....what it does is build the smaller muscles that are harder to build in the gym like those in the hands, feet, and small muscles leading up to the ankles/wrists. And yes you can increase the size of your tendons which makes the extremities look thicker. You will notice when you do this enough that the sides of your ankles will usually throb after doing this workout ie. growing tendon. Sometimes I like to just focus on my ankles so I just grab a giant bag of mulch/sand or if i can find a rock and carry that until my legs wanna drop. I've added over a 100 lbs to my squat and I give all the credit to this exercise. Highly underated for the narrow skinny dudes.....

Skinny wrists make your forearms look bigger.

Skinny ankles make your calves look bigger.

Neither of these are bad things!

Men frequently err by talking too much. They often monopolize conversations, droning on and on about topics that bore women to tears. They think they're impressing the women when, in reality, they're depressing the women.

He's right.

The carrying weights thing you're doing is working your wrist flexors. Nothing wrong with that though...

You could also hang from a chin-up bar.

Technically, subjecting your body to great stress with weights can cause your bones (where the muscles are used in the excercise)to increase in girth, because your body is smart like that I guess, but I don't see this happening noticably unless you have huge muscles and are lifting huge amounts, like the strongmen do. Your bones may be small, but they are incredibly strong for their size and you probably can't do much to convince your body to make them bigger, unless, like I said, you do this for years and turn your body into a huge mass of muscle.

That said, skinny ankles and wrists DO make the calves and forearms seem larger. Maybe if you put on a little fat you would be better? I don't even have that option due to my insane metabolism, but some do..... Some hot girl I knew actually commented to me that my legs (looking at ankle region of course) were skinny and I heard her mention my arms were "slender", lol, but I just correctly interpreted it as her being critical of me because she liked me. Needless to say, I have attempted to make them less skinny, but when you have like 5% or so bodyfat (no lie, but again, this isn't by choice) it is hard to make the regions of pure bone/tendon look bigger.

Try this excercise to improve calves and wrists at once: calf raises while holding a big weight(s) with your hands. Do it on the stairs, preferably with your shoes off so you can have a full range of motion. Your calves will be hurting bigtime right afterward. I usually do like 3 sets and do the last one to complete exhaustion. Did you know that calves are determined by heredity more than any other muscle? Unfortunately, they are also supposedly the hardest muscle to train and grow bigger. I heard the easiest were the pecs, but not sure.... for me my biceps were always best. Anyway, good luck, and if you don't see many gains, just learn to live with it, because it's not worth worrying about... Don't let it keep you from wearing shorts or tank-tops (in which case you should worry more about your upper arm and shoulders than your wrist).

Perhaps this may be a case where I percieve my own physical shortfallings with every other skinny guys. Growing up I had really skinny appendages to the point where kids would ask me if I just came over from Somalia or Rwanda (I'm half indian, with a medditerainian look). My point is I guess it looks better for me to fill out these areas to improve my overall physique. It's alittle like MOM's but with a bit more fat. However when I get fat it all centers around my waist and I'm left with a big tummy and twiggy arms and legs. Chicks love that. Whatever, I look better than most guys do, I just want to be BIG period.:)

yeah, that high metabolism **** is true, I've been a toothpick for years... and no matter how much I eat... nothing... my nickname in 8th grade was "Clucker" and if you don't know what that is, it implies that I am a person who smokes crack-cocaine...

You guys wanna be big, and don't take in 2g of protein per lb target bodyweight and don't use backbreaking weights, how d'you expect to get there?

Never try to read a woman's mind. It is a scary place. Ignore her confusing signals and mixed messages. Assume she is interested in you and act accordingly.

I can sympathize with that. I'm pretty skinny myself.

I agree.

I started out at xmas 2004 weighing around 10st/140lbs...been skinny all my life, thought I had a high metabolism, hardgainer etc.

Maybe I do have high metabolism.....who knows?Point is,once I started to eat like a fuking horse and lift hard the weight came quite easily.

Also the skinny wrist/ankle thing is true.....once you get some muscle on those forearms the taper from forearm to skinny wrist looks all the more impressive.

Plenty of women *like* skinny guys. So don't hide it, emphasize it with form fitting clothes.

I was 145 when I got to college at 5'11". After a year in the weight room I was 175. Alas, I am back to 145 b/c I don't have time to lift and eat all day. But it shows you *can* put on the lbs if you work at it.

They like thin guys, but not too thin, that's like saying a lot of guys like anorexic girls (I definitely don't, it's horrible). So you just dropped all the weight you gained just like that? Man, that sucks, but I guess now that you have the muscle, you could easily bulk up again. My biggest obstacle is eating all day non-stop, because I have to do that if I plan on getting any gains sometime this decade... haha. I still say it is better to be skinny than fat though.
