Because I have such a cool family and girlfriend, I have the choice between a Sirius Satellite (the home receiver + the car jack version) or returning it for an IPOD. Having on surface knowledge of both, I wanted to POLL guys on their experiences, good or bad with them. With the Sirius, she's throwing in a one year subscription, too, so that's motivating to give it a go.
Background: All I listen to in my apt is sportsradio and cd's I burn @ my office. I don't have anything more than basic cable, just 13 channels. I do have OnDemand, so I'll bring up a movie or a comedian. And I have NFL Network for chump change. I probably go a whole week without watching TV, unless it's the Sox or time with my gf, or friends for some special show. Other than that, I'm down to 3, maybe 5 hours at all? I love ESPN and WEEI. That's what I listen to year round. However, I do do lots of downloading. I've got some 500 songs (not much but they're just music I like, and 10gbs of audio, sales, self improvement programs, along with several other's not yet uploaded.
I can see value in both gifts. I'm "leaning" toward Sirius because it seems so cool, and I can use it at home and in my car, and can have it on during poker matches. The customized channel seem kickass, and the fact you can see what it is you're listening to.
The IPOD would be great in the gym, and would save time on burning, and I know some people get video downloaded, but I normally will read a book over listening to things, UNLESS it's sales material or knowledge. I've basically converted my car into a mobile library. That's why I'm leaning toward the SIRI.
Also, SIRI has Nfl channels, so with the upcoming football season, I'll get ALOT of value out of it, too. I'm probably selling myself now on it, and just wanted to hear some opinions on both. I figure I can buy the IPOD later on, and I'd use it in the car, and at the gym, and maybe a few other places, but I rarely ride passenger to listen to it. And I rarely host parties, so I rarely need Cd's ready.
Thoughts?
