Simple ****tail Recipe for Company

Hey, I don't really know anything about alcohol or making drinks. I decided I'd like to be able to whip up a quick ****tail for company. I'm trying to find a recipe but there are too many to decide from. Can someone reccomend something simple and easy that most people will enjoy drinking? Thanks.

vodka + ice + mineral water + lime.

In general most people like white liquor or dark liquor. Buy some vodka and either burbon, scotch or whiskey. Mix the white liquor with clear soda and the dark liquor with dark soda.

ie: Vodka and tonic, jack and coke.
