Silverwex's Cutting Thread

Current Weight: 165 approx.

Date: 30 June 2005

Cutting For: 7 weeks

BF%: 22.5% approx.

BF% Goal: 16% approx.

Diet: Not much of a change from bulking except I cut back on the majority of carbs after 6pm. I may or may not have a pre-cardio shake but I will always have a shake within an hour of doing my cardio work.

Cardio Routine: 3 mornings (Sat., Sun., Thurs.) a week - may alternate between HIIT and 40 minute jogs

WEEK 1 - DAY 1 - THURSDAY - 30 June 2005

Oh my god! Got up and went straight to my first ever HIIT session... Put it this way, Id prefer to jog for 2 hours non-stop instead of doing 5 minutes of this!

Lasted only 2 and a half mins, took a small rest and did another minute. This is by far the most taxing form of cradio I have ever performed.

I may switch to 40 minute jogs instead of this as I was barely able to walk afterwards it was so tough.

Comments?

Stick with HIT, once you get used to it the feeling is awesome. I tend to go overboard too, to the point where I feel like I'm going to pass out and die. I think that means I'm overdoing it though. I read something that said if you are gasping for air then its too much. So just cut down on your intensity a little bit. But for the most part the first week or two is going to be rough becuase its such a shock to your system. In the end though its worth it. Studies have shown you get better results from just jogging and it takes way less time.

I'm getting ready to go into a cutting phase as well. I got a handy digital scale from Salter that has 900 foods programmed in. So when you weigh the food it tells you all the nurtrional info such as cal, fat, prot, carb etc... Pretty cool. For me the key is going to be consitency with my diet. I did Body For Life about 2 years ago and lost around 3 pounds but then stalled. Plus I got discouraged when I didnt gain a lot of muscle. Now I realize I cut my calories too low and messed up my metabolism so not only did I stop losing weight but I didn't realize how much you need to eat to gain muscle.

good luck man. with this slow cutting program you should even be able to gain some muscle mass while cutting the fat.

IMO you don't have to do cardio in the beginning of the cut, just lower the food intake and lift as normal. Your cardio is there only to assure you are on a negative caloric balance. When you don't seem to drop more BF% take a look on your diet and add in some cardio then. For now IMO it's ok to just take some brisk walks a couple of times a week. Doing too much in the beginning of the cut will leave you dead in the gym if you are used to bulking save up the energy for the gym the first week.

and of course.. good luck =)

thanks for the replies all.

im not changing much in regard to diet - im only cutting back on most carbs after 6pm (maybe eat just tuna, prot. shake w/ water, salmon, eggs after 6),

Would this be ok?

I mean i dont feel weak or anything, this is what a lot of people feel when they cut isnt it?

right, this isnt working out - i love socialising on friday and saturday nights so im not gonna give that up but this means i cant do cardio in the mornings.

one q: is it ok to perform cardio in the evening? lets say i have a protein rich meal (with hardly any carbs) at 5pm and the 8pm - if i went to do cardio at about 9pm would it burn off much fat?

cheers

Socialising at the weekend isn't going to help your cause. You need quality sleep and rest to help lean down. The drinks can't help either.

'Cutting' is a matter of extreme discipline, which is ultimately what you need to succeed. If you insist on getting smashed and staying up late then expect your cut to take longer.

As for the cardio, it really depends on your metabolism/daily activities/etc whether it'll burn fat late at night. My guess would be probably not, incidentally. If you can't do a.m. cardio then do some HIIT later in the day (properly fuelled) - expect your squats to suffer though.

What's your diet like?

Do not be too easy. If you are too easy to get, she will not want you. If you are too easy to keep, she will lose interest in you. If you are too easy to control, she will not respect you.
