As a shy guy myself, I learned a great technique for practicing your game. Go to the female barber instead of the guy. Conversations are real easy because you don't have to face them all the time. When she asked what I wanted I said "You know what I'm not sure. I always get the same thing and was wondering what you think". You could tell she never gets this and was all flustered. It was the best haircut I ever got. She even gave me some tips. She said from a girls perspective it looks better when the guy leaves his callick in instead of shaving it out. Our conversation ranged from college to the olympics, to me saying how much I love the feeling of getting my head shaved with hot shaving cream (she loved this for some reason). There are so many things you can talk about to a female barber, its so easy. Everyone was listening to our conversation and joined in a little. I had her laughing and talking all fast like she was nervous or something it was great!

Well, I'm shy even around the hot female barber. I think having a stranger cut your own hair is a pretty awkward situation to place yourself into and it's hard not to be shy. I usually only say what haircut I want and then don't talk at all until she's done. I say "thanks, it looks fine" then pay and leave.

Really? I feel like its much easier for me because I don't have to make so much eye contact since she's cutting my hair. It's much easier then a cold approach which usually freak me out. Why is it awkward for you? Everyone gets their hair cut by strangers and most people talk to their barber. I really forced myself to do this and it worked out great. I just remembered much of the stuff from the bible and kept it light and funny.

I did just that last time I went to the barber. Told her I didn’t know precisely what I wanted, and asked her what’d look best on me. I got out with the most terrible haircut ever. Thank God I have short hair. Maybe she was just a awful barber… haha

Lol yeah, this guy is right.

Most barbers aren't truly artists. Therefore, they can't really picture a type of hairstyle that would conform to your facial structure. Most barbers are just really good with scissors.

I've asked, on multiple occasions, multiple barbers what they'd think a good hairstyle would be for me. I've always come out with a haircut that makes my head look a rice bowl.

But the tip is good, nonetheless. If you're a shy guy reading this, give it a shot. You never know what will or will not work for you until you give it a shot.

Yeah, I didn't think of it as a way to approach her back then. I just wanted to try something else for a change. It's a good ice breaker, though.

Lol.

Off topic but where exactly would you find someone who knows what haircut is good for your face? I've never met a barber who is an artists like you said. I just got lucky with this chick. I mean this barber shop charges 15 for haircuts and I'm thinking I could get better quality cuts for that much money.

Hmm, haven't really found anything concrete near my area yet. But definitely avoid mall type barber shops. They couldn't give a **** about you as a customer because they're going to get business one way or another (since they're located in a shopping center).

Believe it or not, small barber joints, specifically in downtown area, are sometimes pretty good. Look for male barbers and look at their hairstyle first. If their hair fits well with their facial structure, then you know he must be good. On the other hand, if it's an old guy, then he's most likely a well established barber who's been doing this for years. You can't go wrong with somebody who has an experience.

Like I said, I haven't really found anything concrete. But I've tired small barber shops in downtown and I was more satisfied with their work than the mall barbers. Plus, they were cheaper than mall barbershops too.

I don't mean to be stereotypical at all and hope I don't offend anyone. But EVERY haircut I've gotten from an Asian woman has been awful, in fact they're the worst haircuts I've ever gotten. I'm sure there's some great Asian female barbers/stylists out there but I've yet to encounter anything that's above awful.

I don't like this idea because I think a shy guy being around a hot female when he is going to give her money for services rendered will leave him with less cash in his wallet. A shy guy, substitute AFC, will likely give a much higher tip in the hopes that this extra "nice" gesture will gain her validation.

You think so? I only left her with 2 dollars in tips. Actually I gave her a twenty and she was going to give me a five back but I said keep 2. She got all confused and got nervous again. Her: "uhh wait, hahaha, ok here you go (hands me 4 ones in confusion)" Me: "(wtf?) No, keep 2" Her: "oh ok, hahaha, good luck in college". I think I already validated myself at this point.

I think the key here is just to make conversation with a hot girl, not to get her validation or pick her up. It's just to build confidence. Besides any guy who has read any of the bible know this is a big no.

I agree that not all barbers are artists, but some of them are, so it is just a matter of finding a good one. Sure you can go to Great Clips or whatever and spend 10-15 dollars, but if you call around a town there is usually at least one professional who charges about 30 dollars for a shampoo and cut. Although the price is a bit higher, one does not need to even think about what the barber is doing because one is sure they know what they are doing. Whenever I go in I just tell them to give me a trim and a style they like. This also gives a lot of charity to the barber so it makes him/her want to do well. As a result of this trust, the barber is also more likely to tell you an objective opinion about a style good for your frame.

Just remember that it is not as good idea to let a barber do a free for all on you if you are rude, a bad tipper, or they aren't getting paid enough to care.

Tip at least $5, 10$ if it's a good job, and you can rest assure that business will always take good care of you from then on.

This comes from a 31 year old who feels the need to bash a young shy guy who is genuinely trying to improve his shyness.

Tell me, does your remaining manhood come from making posts like that?

Huh?

I bet you are one of those 30 year old losers who can't get any poon so they post in forums about picking up girls and really know nothing. And with whatever manhood you have left try to attack a dude half your age to make yourself feel better about all those empty nights with hand lotion and a Macy's catalog.

Seriously man, wtf? If you were any much of a man you'd be more like The Bat or Interceptor and actually have some reputation on this forum. But I guess not.

I think that could be a good idea. If she destroys your hair, you could always just have it buzzed, it's tough to go wrong with a buzz cut.

Maybe i've just been unlucky, but on the couple times I've tried a female barber they've completely screwed my hair up...didn't know what they were doing at all.

I go now to a guy probably only in his 40s and 50s. $10 a haircut. But he really does approach it like art. I joked with him one time, i said, "You cut hair like you're sculpting, like it's an art." He laughed, but it was true. There are some really good barbers out there.

But no, I've never had any luck with a woman cutting my hair.
