I'm 28 years old working on my Associates at the local community college. I live with my single mother who is 65 years old. The Navy seems like a way to finish my degree and travel the world at the same time, all while getting paid pretty well to do so. Whats ur opinions on this?

Look into rotc scholarships so that you can go in as an officer after they pay for your 4-year degree. The navy's scholarships are harder to get than air force or army. Go with whoever will make you an officer. It's less work for more pay.

Navy life isn't for everyone. You'll be out to sea 6 months of the year and if you enlist your first 2 years are gonna be rough. You'll get stuck with all the crappy details that none of the higher ranking sailors want to do and there is no privacy on the ship if you're enlisted. You can go to college, but most sailors are too tired after working a 12 hour shift to go to class or do school work. After 4 years you can go to college on the GI Bill though.

Canada, eh?
I wanted to apply to join the navy too as a direct entry MARS officer, but opted out for army instead, as it seems that any kinda relationship is gonna be hard to maintain when you are out to sea.

By all means, finish your associate degree first, then bone up on the entrance exam. You want to go the officer route simply b-cuz it pays better. 20 and out.
