Alright, I've finally got a problem I could use a little help with from the mature men here.

For the last week I've been experiencing the most incredible (as in wrath of God, nuclear holocaust) headaches just prior to climaxing when I'm getting after it with Mrs. Tomassi. These headaches are incapacitating and there is quite literally nothing that will make them abate except waiting them out. It is a throbbing, intense pain that originates in the base and back of my skull. These headaches persist anyhere from 3 to 24 hours. It is unbelieavably painful and the only thing that triggers them is an orgasm.

Fortunately my wife is a CT tech at a hospital here and scanned my head and had it read by the radiologists and docs on staff. They've all ruled out a hemorage or bleed and say my brains are quite normal (relatively speaking). I've done a bit of studying on this phenomenon and found that men in my age bracket tend to get these occasionally. The medical term is called coital cephalagia and there's some kind of treatment fo it. Men get it 5 times more than women and it can be caused by stress, but not much else has really been studied about it. The headaches are called 'thunderclap' headaches and occur just prior or durng orgasm. And holy fvck did they get that term right. From what I've read the headaches usually subside after a few weeks.

I was wondering if any of the older men here have had these headaches? What did you do to resolve them? All I know is I cant even spank it now for fear of becoming incapacitated for a day and sex (at least as far as my pleasure goes) is out of the question at this point. I can't begin to describe this pain for you. It's like an ice pick being driven into the base of your skull that lasts for hours that brings you to the point of screaming. It is agony that nothing will stop.

I've gotten them at climax, it's a blood pressure thing. Attempting to control an orgasm builds up pressure in more ways than one. Occasionally it's better forgo tantric sex and just enjoy a simple release (occasionally).

its an exertion headache.

I went through a phase of getting these and then they just dissapeared.

Do you have a cold? At the time I had a cold and was taking a thermogenic for fat loss.

Literally I would go to the gym, do one rep and bang I would get excruitiating pain for hours.

I took a week up, rested, cold went, stopped the thermogenic and I was fine?

JOE BLACK: God that's sppoky! I did exactly this same thing this morning. I thought I could lift and just started my warm up sets benching and the headache started again. I just went off of DHEA (pro-hormone) and stopped Creatine too.

Update: After feeling this same headache after lifting I stopped and went to the ER at my wife's hospital. Had another CT, an MRI and a MRA to rule out an anyureism or a bleed. All checked out OK. Doc said it was in fact an exertion headache and I'm seeing a Neurologist on Friday. I've got some meds now too and I'm supposed to not lift or do anything too strenuous for 2 weeks. Hopefully, JOE, you're right and they'll subside after that. Kind of scarry though. Thanks for the input.

I've had something similar

About ten years ago, I got these *killer* headaches every time I'd workout. I was a fairly serious gym rat, 2 hrs/day, so this was a major drag. Doctors had no useful advice.

Then I bring along a workout partner who is studying to be a chiropracter. He asks me if I have any problems with my teeth. In fact, I did have a wisdom tooth coming in (I was 21). He said the teeth can change the blood flow resulting in headaches during high-blood pressure events such as lifting.

Sure enough, once the tooth had come in, I had no more headaches. So you may want to move up your dental checkup now and ask them to x-ray your teeth.

Wow...

Just do things that will help raise your self-esteem and if you have to, put sex on the hold at least for a couple of days.

It may be very well worth the wait.

Too funny!!!!

To avoid having sex married women say "I have a headache, not tonight dear!"

Now you have married dudes tellling their wives, "I don't want to have sex because I'll get a headache afterwards!"

What you need to do is very simple: rest, in all aspects. Stop having any kin dof sex for a while. Stop going to the gym. Stop taking creatine and all other stuff. Stop taking medication if possible. Stop drinking any alcohol for a while.

Rest more: are you getting enough sleep? Do you have to wake up with an alarm clock? Shut it off and throw away. Sleep as much as you feel like - just got to bed earlier. Take a nap during the day (if you have this marveloous opportunity).

Chnage the mode of your excerises: you used to got o teh gym? Stop it and just take some not very long, SLOW walks. Do it on a regular basis, so you body would adjust to this "new" slow pace.

Sounds simple, isn't it? Try it, do it for a while (1 month at least).
If that headach will still persist you gotta take a serious look at your diet...any fast food? lots of meat? fried food? do you eat a lot? You will have to change that.....

Sure it is not some pill that will cure you in a second. But it is proven stuff that increase your health and make you calmer.
I am sure it is what you need right now.

a177: Exactly what the doctor told me. I'm going to lay off for about 2-3 weeks (which is killing me BTW). As far as my diet is concerned, I'm very conscious of what I eat and have controlled everything going into my body for years now, so I doubt that's it. I think it was a combination of dropping creatine and DHEA with a lot of stress I'm going through right now. My company is relocating to Florida in 3 months and I've got to uproot the whole family to make the move.

Thanks all for the input.

I think you are right about stress. If it is the cause (which you and I suspect it is) then obviously you gotta do some destressing. But, I personaly found the most simple and the most effective cure for quite large range of health related problems that are hard to deal with: fasting.

If you do fasting for about 5 days, your body will heal itself to a large extent: at least you will alleviate symptoms. But I realize how hard it might be for you: working and eating nothing for a week. I'd suggest to do 3 days fasting: no food\drinks\gum\medicine and drink only water. It will not cure anything, but it will provide an excellent healthy shock for your body to start healing itself: especially if after that you will follow your doc's advice, getting plenty of rest etc it

From the other point of view: this problem will persist untill the thing that causes stress for you exists. Coclusion? Time is the best healer in this case... since you job situtaion will settle down soon.
