Selling yourself- has anyone boosted their Cv/resume

I'm trying to get a career in the UK going. I'm a graduate from a decent uni but with a slightly lower classification than I wanted. This means it's very hard to get the interviews in the jobs I want. Plus I have no placement experience.

I'm a blank canvas :)

Can employers check to see what grades in high school/secondary school you got?

Can employers check your degree class?

Has anyone lied about their qualifications to get a job they wanted? A friend suggested boosting grades etc... :trouble: ?

if you're going for a job with a big firm I should imagine they'd ask you to bring in your certificates...

edit: just an idea, but you could always get a second phone and create yourself a job - "oh he was a great employee, I'll be sorry to lose him to be honest" etc etc :p

Yeah, I'd imagine a big co. would. There are a lot of agency recruited jobs on the web. I'm guessing, smaller co.s with no HR dept. The agencies don't care but the co.s do?

I'm not really stuck for references but that's an ok tip!

I'd really prefer to get a job without having to boost but what do you guys reckon?

I don't think I got the memo. What exactly are "porkies"?

Last I remember, a "porky" is a fat girl. So why would you want to tell a fat girl anything if you're looking for a job? LOL.

I usually don't talk to porkies.

Employers ask for a printout of your academic transcript. This way, you cannot lie.

I have lied about some things though, like different work experience I have had (which I havent), and I got a great job doing so.

Prospective employers like in a person like yourself who has no previous experience in the field you want to work, they look for Travel, experience and references in a casual job you have done recently, double degrees, grades (which you dont have, but this is not as critical as it might seem for a lot of big companies), social events (like fundraising activities), and say you have played team sports and captained your team. Also say you coached a junior team at some point.
