What books or websites would you recommend and where should I start?

If trading anything under than $500k, I'd say you're wasting your time. RE is the American Dream.

you should go to TradeWay.com. You can even start with trading $500. They have seminars levels I, II, III and IV, etc., throughout the USA to sign up and maybe they one near where you live. You have to pay for membership and you can arrange it on a monthly basis until the membership payment is paid off. Normally, it'll take a year to complete the payoff.

If you go this route, definitely be a TOP GUN member. Being a Top Gun you can call or email and receive their expert advice on a particular stock you're looking at and explain to you how it's moving (up, down or sideways).

Seminar I is about trading Stocks
Seminar II and III is about trading Options
Seminar IV is about trading Spreads

I personally think you have to be wired to understand it. I've given up. And sh*t, I'm very good at math, and still can't get it.

I suck at math, and I made a living at trading for several years. I always had a positive account. I was low man on the totem pole, but pulling several hundred bucks a day out of the market, with few losing days. Other guys were making $10-15k on a good day. The company kept all the money I made, because it was their money I was trading. But it was my dream job, and I just wanted to not get fired, in a job where 90% of people do. I had about 2 mil in buying power each day. For a white trash kid straight out of the trailer, that was a lot of money. Unfortunately, I arrived at the end of the day trading boom, and my employers kept going out of business.
