I just turned 16 last month, and Im still very skinny/scrawny/have no muscle at all. I dont want to work out yet b/c i dont want to stunt my growth. Im just about 5'11 now but everybody in my family are slow growers, and usually reach 6'1, so ive got a bit more growing to do. But being skinny is really affecting my game. I know muscles are important, but i also know that height is really important too (according to my sister its even more important than looks). Any advice?

Height's not important. I'm pretty much fully grown (as in, my doctor said I probably won't grow any more) and I'm only 5' 7" - 5' 8". I occasionally get glances (not contemptuous glances either) from women. I'm not even the best looking guy in my class. I only have a little bit of arm muscle, a lot of thigh muscle, and some chest muscle, but I have a bit of a gut, not much, but a gut nonetheless. Also, lifting weights does not stunt your growth. If you aren't going to grow anymore, like me, then you're just not going to grow. Nothing can drastically influence that. So, don't be down on yourself just because you're skinny and maybe just a bit under average height.

Average height isn't 6' for a full grown male, I don't think. Average is about 5'8" to 5'9".

Wow, I did not know that. Around 6' 0 - 6' 1 seems to be the average where I live. Maybe the old saying about Texas is true!

It's the same where I live to. I'm 5'9 and 16, but most boys seem to tower over me.

Also, that stuff about weight training stunting your growth is a myth:

Go hit the gym, man!

I'm ****ing scrawny myself. 5'11 120 lbs. You can check the Health and Fitness, and over 2 years I've gone from 100 lbs to 120. I hope to gain 30 lbs in the next year.

Being scrawny is a bad thing, but you can stand command respect. I can command respect. I get picked on for my weight, but I'm not someone everyone picks on. I'm not the neighborhood joke. Now as for girls, we're screwed. We just have to fill in. Take Whey, get some weights, and do it. There are plenty of articles here by Warboss Alex that can help you.

Men's fitness is good for the Health Tips and Sex stuff, but as far as working out gos, you might as well look at TNation and lifting forums...they're MUCH better.

Also, this belongs in the "Health and Fitness" forum.

Height isn't too important. Just go for shorter chicks. I'm 5'9 and I love my shorties (4'10-5'5). Works out well for me.

Create self-fulfilling prophecies. Always assume the positive. Assume she likes you. Assume she wants to talk to you. Assume she wants to go out with you. When you think positive, positive things happen.

I can only squat around 225 though. I admit, I aint been in the weight room for a while.

I been combining my runs with chin-ups, dips etc (on monkey bars I run across) to keep myself strong until I get the money for a gym :)

good sub for the poor DJ

That is pretty lame. I'd save up some serious green and buy myself a squat rack, barbell, weights, dumbells and a bench. Thats all you need really. Maybe as you grow financially, add some more stuff.

Sorry to hijack the thread guys. :)

I would if I could man. unfortunately, my dorm room is tiny. First semester is almost over, during christmas break I'm gonna work and make some $$, then gonna join a nearby gym. Semester 2, my time to shine!

Man, this squat withdrawl is getting to me...
