Hey , I found out i've got an average case of scoliosis a couple months ago and i 've been going to my local chiropractor for treatment. His basic theory is that he'll try to straighten our the curves ( lateraly) and work on other misaligned vertabrae. He also gave me chest expansion exercises. Once my spine is properly aligned he'll give me other exersices to strengthen the muscles on each side of the spine, to keep it straight. Anyways it seems logical to me, but are there alternative treatments or anything i can do to speed up the process? My doc also told me that I have tarditive dyskenesia. I used to work out and he told me i can't right now until my spine is straight. Its ****ty because i was making progress workin out but ill have to be patient. Any feedback you guys can give me is appreciated.

Is Scoliosis where your spine is curved sorta zig zag? Or is it when your spine is "pushed in" in your lower back?

Hey Mr Hash, scoliosis is when your spine curves zig zag, and can be caused by a pushed in vertabrae in the lower back. Do you know of anythin that i could speed the healing with?

I had scoliosis (maybe I still do) and went to a chiropractor for several years. He kept my back from hurting but he never made any progress towards fixing the curve. I started focusing on strengthining my lower back and haven't had any pain for over a year, even though I'm not going to the chiropractor anymore. I have no idea if my spine is still curved, but as long as it doesn't hurt, I don't care.

Also, use some common sense - if you're in school, don't wear a bag over one arm, use a backpack with 2 straps and use both of them. Don't put your wallet in your back pocket while you're sitting down. Sit up straight. Sleep on your back or on your side, not all sprawled out.

Why would your doc tell you that?? My sister had a pretty messed up case of scoliosis (her spine was pushed up under her shoulderblade) and she ran track 4 years straight when she was in school. I dont know if it has to do with the TD that you were dignosed with, but having scoliosis shouldnt interfere with your working outi in fact, it should help you.

Thanks guys, good advice. Nightwing, i'm curious about your theory. Shouldn't my spine be straight before i work the muscles around it? When i talk about working out im talking serious weighlifting( squats, shoulder press, incline bench) . What do you think?

I'm not a doctor, but like I said before, my sister had a bad case of scoliosis where her spine slid under her shoulderblade and caused it to protrude out and she ran 2 yrs of track in Jr. High and 4 years in high school. So I dont think exercise would hurt your condition. In fact, working out was what my doctor recommended to my sister, although she didnt do it and ended up getting corrective surgery where they had to put a metal rod in her back in order to staighten up her spine.

So as far a my opinion is concerned, working out will help your situation. When my sister was going thru the same situation, her doctors were telling her the same thing but since she was a freaking knucklehead, she didnt do it. Maybey you should check out the internet about your condition or even ask other doctors about how weight training can effect your conditon.

I've got scoliosis, was diagnosed 4 years ago. So far my gym sessions don't seem to have been affected by it.

Hey I think all us SoSuave guys with Scoliosis should get together on MSN or something, I know I'd certainly like to know how its affected other guys regarding getting chicks etc. Personally I did have one girl laugh at my chest, not sure whether that was at my rib that sticks out tho... or my lack of muscle :)
