I just got back from a wake for my neighbor, who was only a few years older than me. He committed suicide in college. I never really knew him all that well, but he lived right next door.
I did a pretty good job holding back the tears for most of the 2+ hour line, but once I got to the casket and saw his mother and father standing there...
It damn near broke my heart. I can't imagine what would drive somebody to do something like that, that would destroy their whole family.
No parent should have to bury their child, especially for something so senseless. I saw my grandfather bury my uncle, but I was too little too see how truly sad it was.
This kid was in the prime of his life. The heartbreak on the parents' faces said it all...
I guess I just needed to get it off my chest. Discuss if you want, but don't turn this into any kind of political-religious flame war.
