Metal rhenium is used in defense industry for creating alloys for aircraft, space, and ship industry. Also used in electronics.
Usual ways of attaining this metal require processing tons of ore. For more than 20 years it was known in Russia that rhenium can be obtained from volcanoes, but the project wasn't sponsored for obvious reasons. Now there is going to be build a factory inside a volcano caldera for collecting rhenium. Factory is going to be unmanned, and process will yield this metal in high quantities and very cheaply.
