Does running a mile in 8 minutes twice a day constitute a good enough workout regimen for heart health? I do it on both of my 15 minute breaks at work. My work has a gym, so I fire up the treadmill and run a mile as fast as I can on both breaks. That's the only workout I do except for some bench pressing at home.

How good is this workout routine? I am not looking to get big or anything. I am looking for cardiac health. My family has history of heart problems. The doctor said to get my heart rate up for 20 minutes a day 3 times a week. Does doing it in 2 spurts qualify? Thanks.

Look at heart monitor, it has to beat 130 for a cardio training to even begin. 5 minutes at 130 is good. I personally can't do it. I'm gonna die of heart disease if the AIDS or other std won't get me.

You can't run on the treadmill for 8 minutes? I have become really thin by doing this too.

Look into HIIT (like combat conditioning...google it).

Some docs say that VERY HIGH intensity workout in short bursts might be better than running.

Some people claim good results by ditching the running and doing a few hundred hindu squats (google it) once or twice a day.

At this point you probably have a woman (or multiple women) chasing you around, calling you all the time, wanting to be with you. So let's talk about how to KEEP a woman interested in you once you have her. This is BIG! There is nothing worse than getting dumped by a woman that you really, really like.

If you have access to a gym at work then use it to its full potential. just because you lift doesn't mean you will get huge, it is all about how you lift. look at many athletes they arent big and bulky but they do exercise all muscle groups for a well balanced strong healthy body. 2x8minute runs isn't going to do you the world of good man. now don't get me wrong that is a pretty alright time for a mile but it would be more beneficial if you ran for 20 minutes straight at a more steady pace as it will keep your heart rate at a nice even pulse for an extended period of time. whereas 2x8min you have to warm up and elevate your heart rate twice so takes longer to get it into an optimal zone.

and really 2 miles a day or 20 minutes isn't that much at all, there is no such thing as 5 minute abs or 10 minute buns or anything like that if you want decent results you need to work your a$$ off. I jog 2.5 miles in the morning and another 2.5 in the afternoon along with going to the gym for at least an hour each day on top of an extremely physical job.

You want the results you need to put in the effort because you will only get out what you put in.

good job, keep it up and you'll end up looking like a bellsprout or worse mohammad farah.

your doc is an asshat and deserves throat rape.i bet he was either skinny or an indian with a pot belly stinking with curry crap.
the medical profession has consistently proved that they are unreliable asshats.most of the med books are filled with garbage.especially the american ones.

dont listen to that 20 mins a day crap, you think the caveman was healthy by jogging 20 mins a day while oggling gym bunnies?

.
anyway FYI running is more traumatic and dangerous than ice hockey or soccer. you dont believe me? well i bet my ass you got pain in your ankle or foot somewhere right? there.

weightlifting + opportunistic cardio === for fat guys
weightlifting ONLY = for skinny guys

also the "fat burning zone" or the "keep heart rate at xxx % " is bvll****.its a myth.

stick to a lifting routine like 5X5 or 5X3 , they can be done under 20 mins and wont make you look like beepee

I did the heart monitor today. The heart beat was over 150 halfway into the run. I do this twice a day 4 days a week and lift weights the other day. I am paranoid as hell about plaque building in my arteries. My dad has had a triple bypass operation and my uncle just died suddenly in his sleep. I take a ton of supplements like Niacin and Vitamin D3 and pomegranate and aspirin, plant sterols and red yeast rice every day. Look into Pomegranate. It's supposed to reverse Artheroslerosis. I also take resveratrol and red winne extract.

Plant Sterols and red yeast rice dropped my bad cholesterol 30 percent in 3 months and raised my good cholesterol. I added Niacin which is supposed to raise good cholesterol more. Can't wait till my next blood test.

I will look into those links, thanks. My doctor is a woman. I ditched my male doc when he refused to prescribe me Ambien when I was working night shift and had to sleep during the day. Screw that doc. Won't prescribe me ambien? The woman doc is decent. She gave me ambien. My shrink is a woman and gives me adderall. Not too shabby eh?

Surprisingly, I don'ty have any pain so far from the running. I used to get shin splints when I played sports. It's pain free so far. Just started doing this 2 weekas ago. I am going to start running more miles. It's the short break time that restricts me.

Malice,

When heart rate goes over 130, slow down, and keep it at 130. What counts is the duration of your heart at that rate. At least that's the theory, and I know it.

Also, I lost a lot of weight doing Fitness Made Simple. It is aerobic workout with dumbbells and a bench, plus I ran every morning for 5 minutes, and then walked. Went from 150 (or 160) to 105 in 3.5 months time. Then the f'cking carrot cake killed me and I regained my weight. I finally lost weight and kept it when I moved to Russia. No GMO and hormone meat really make healthy.

hehe America is obese. You know what's the number one question they ask me here?

Why Americans are so fat?!

There is no benefit at all to keep the heart rate at 150?
