Has anyone else seen this movie? Ive seen it twice and its about this 30ish year old DJ who teaches his 16 year old nephew "the ropes" so to speak of getting with chicks.

the strategy used by the DJ in this movie is questionable however...

does anyone else have an opinion on this film?

I agree that Roger's techniques are well - dodgy.

I think he goes beyond C&F and neg hits into
bitter diatribes. Any woman who falls into bed with
him is either impressed with his superficial intellectualism,
or has incredibly low self-esteem. Or both.

The movie has some good points about it - clearly
Roger isn't afraid to approach and engage.
And he shows his young protege that you have
to seize openings and opportunities when
they arise for they are fleeting.

For a more positive spin on connecting with women,
I'd suggest The Tao of Steve. While the ultimate message
(the film was written and directed by a woman)
may seem to be against that of being a DJ or any
other sort of player, there are some genuinely
good points about how a guy should handle women.

It's good in one way of how DJing can go wrong when you lapse into AFCdom. He does well at the beginning of each pick-up, he's great and noticing the subtleties of AI's from women, and then he goes completely over the top to totally disinterest the women he meets. It's almost like an extreme version of how using C&F and Neg hits going to far with it and not knowing when to stop. It's like his one-itis with his boss has reduced him to AFCdom and it's poisioned his skills. I suspect that he is so bitter and angry because of the rejection of the oneitis, and he is taking out on the women he meets. But it is true, sex is everywhere...

Yes i agree the Tao of Steve is a movie containing more accurate DJ information, ive seen it like 10 times and it was filmed in my home town.

As for Roger Dodger, it seems as though roger has what it takes to be successful at pick-ups and other social situations but he gets fed up with himself or with the girl or both, and decides to deconstruct everything around him in a negative manner, which sends the girls running the opposite way.

I haven't seen Roger Dodger. As I was checking Hollywood Video's site, several video titles popped up. And a lot of us think that Swingers and Tao of Steve are the monopolizers.

From reel.com's site

Carnal Knowledge (1971)
Starring: Jack Nicholson, Candice Bergen
Director: Mike Nichols
Classic character-driven drama examines two male friends' attitudes toward women/sex.

Hurlyburly (1998)
Starring: Sean Penn, Robin Wright
Director: Anthony Drazan
More stilted, theatrical drama about toxic males and the women they abuse.

In the Company of Men (1997)
Starring: Aaron Eckhart, Stacy Edwards
Director: Neil LaBute
Acclaimed dramedy offers another incisive portrait of modern misogyny.

Creative Movie Matches

Naked (1993)
Starring: David Thewlis, Lesley Sharp
Director: Mike Leigh
Nastier Brit kitchen-sink drama about even more brutish womanizer.

Singles (1992)
Starring: Bridget Fonda, Matt Dillon
Director: Cameron Crowe
Scott co-stars in fluffier comedy about strife between men and women.

I do not think that Roger was a dj, he has to much of a negative outlook about everything, especially women. I agree he has some dj skills but he will always have trouble closing.
