I constantly find myself in situations where i am forced to "race" another car for a merged lane change..im a college student who is always damn near late to class so my foot is constantly almost fully pressed down on the gas..i drive a 99 maxima (v6, 190hp, 205 torque 0-60 in 7.9 secs, not bad ive looked up typical 0-60 mph times) and in my area a lot of ppl my age drive crappy hondas with loud ass mufflers/exhausts.. anyway my question is whenever your honestly in a rush to get somewhere, why does it some ****ty car is trying to race you from a red light? are youthat person? :trouble:

No, but I usually embarrass that person at the next light.

I have a legitamely fast but loud 4 cyl and I pull off the line fast...but that's cause I'm trying to get to 6th gear as fast as possible...Gas prices are horrendous on premium! Anyway alot of people THINK I'm trying to race them and that's not the case.

Get a manual if you want to get away from a red light fast. Will also consume less gas if you drive normally.

I've never heard a "loud 4-cylinder" that didn't sound like a lawnmower smoking crack.

But get whatever's gonna make you happiest and/or fastest in the end.

When something like this: http://i171.photobucket.com/albums/u315/lcky_kd/honda-ricer.jpg
pulls up next to me and starts revving the engine with its fart-can muffler, i cant help but laugh.

I drive a 98 v6 stickshift Ford that i got for $2500 for fvcks sake, and if i really step on it i end up at least 2 full car lengths ahead of these clowns by 45mph.

I have a 95 Stealth RT, not the twin turbo, but its dohc v6 still makes more torque than most cars on the road. I'm not racing against Vettes and V8 Mustang GTs, however I am still faster than most Civics. :)

Man I haven't seen a running Stealth in at least a year! Stealths and Mitsubishi 3000 GT's were notorious for being in the shop even six years ago. To own a fuctioning one NOW is nothing less then a feat.

152k mi and running strong. It helps reliability to not be the AWD twin turbo, but I would still prefer the turbo. The biggest problem is parts, because the cars aren't made any more, and most of the junk ones have been smashed for scrap. The old computer and alarm systems tend to fail. When my alarm was going off by itself, I took it back and forth to the dealership literally five times in under two weeks for the same problem. Eventually, the two service managers just gave up. I got a local guy to creatively engineer the wiring so that it somewhat works. The alarm now goes off when I unlock the passenger door from the outside with a key. This means I never have to open the door for a chick, sweet.

My other project, which is taking so long it's going to be my retirement car, is having a Chevy V8 put into a 91 Nissan 300zx.

This engine, an LT1 stroked to 383, trick flow heads and some other go-fast goodies:

in this car:

will make me a Hybrid Z.

It's hard to get quality work done on cars that were discountiued and not legend cars. The parts for my celica aren't too to hard to find but aftermarket body parts, (like the bomex bumper I ordered circa a month ago and still hasn't arrived at my body shop yet) have to be re cast and molded before they get there.

Everything else is sitting in warehouses though, it's just a matter of shopping the net to find the right parts. The guy who sold me my vortech supercharger, had tons of them and sold it to me for just over 2K.

Do you shop the net for parts or usually just junkyard? I can't even begin to imagine how long it takes to pick through parts at a wrecking yard for stealth parts seeing how rare they are.

That ZX is gonna be a head turner by the way when it's done! People won't know what the hell is going on when they hear a deep V8 throat coming from an import lol!

Thanks. Supercharged Celica, eh? How is that going? Stock internals? How much boost?

I am going to try to get the Z on the road without any forced induction. I looked at turbo kits for the LT1 but with forged internals it's like $10,000 to get 12 psi of boost, and that would probably only get it into the 10's in the quarter mile, at the very best. n/a that car should run 12's, more than good enough for the street.

If the Z ever gets done, my next idea would be to try for the most power in the lightest car possible. The early 70's Z cars weigh about half what my 300zx weighs and will still hold a big block v8. Just that engine in that car gets you into the 9's - that's faster than my Yamaha R1. Nitrous shaves off another second, but the ultimate is turbo'ing that big block! I have read about a twin-turbo big block in a 90's f-body Camaro that the builders were trying to make into a streetable car that ran the 1/4 in the 5's. I think traction problems kept them in the 6's, but that is ungodly fast for a street legal car. By comparison, the stock twin turbo Z has about a 14 second quarter mile time and is faster than almost anything one sees on the street.

My celica tears it up. Hardly anything underneith the hood is still stock. I had to go through hell to ensure the super wouldn't throw a rod or cause an engine fire during the las vegas summers. I'm not going to list it all but just think of basic car parts and then assume that on my vehicle they are all pretty much aftermaket.

I get a little over 5 psi of boost which is great because my car is so light. Even still I run like 13's in the quarter mile but I've always been about distance racing. I dropped it and shaved the wheel wells and put on race susspension so I can corner, drift and generally manuver at high speeds with little worries about losing control.

What's funny is most people assume that since I have an aftermarket body kit (Bomex rear bumper, Sho gun sideskirts, R34 octane lip kit) on an import car that i'm some how "a poser" and just like to look flashy. My car was 180 horse when i started and now i'm at 250, i barely added anyweight and the, inegrity of the engine is stronger now then it was then so it almost never breaks down. I run handle to handle with much more powerful cars because of the even ratio.

I like my car so much that I bought a matching Tacoma with a twin turbo for daily driving. It's a four door long bed and it's pretty fast too but really i needed something to carry four people comfortably and hauling things in a celica isn't exactly practical.

5 second quarter miles! That's CRAZY fast. I don't think I'd want to go that fast without a full roll cage or something. It's very difficult to steer well when you reach those speeds and the margin for error is slim.
