"Any man who reads too much and uses his own brain too little falls into lazy habits of thinking."- Albert Einstein
I noticed when I created goals for myself, they immediately created anxiety within me which many times overwhelmed me. It was easy planning things, than actually following through with those plans.
I studied a lot of texts and articles and this is what worked well for me.
Habits > Goals
Essentially, creating goals with the sole purpose of being happy when you achieve them leads to outcome dependence, which in turn makes us dependent on the final results and the gratification derived from it.
Once that gratification is fulfilled, you go back to your own patterns, which could become counter productive in the long run.
I tackled this problem by creating a regimen whereby all my attention and focus in a day is on 6 important habits of mine.
1. Hygiene ( Bathing + Grooming + Dressing well )
2. Working out
3. Cooking food and logging it.
4. Meditating/ Practicing mindfulness for 10 minutes
5. Reading useful articles/a book
6. Socialising with my friends usually through games like snooker
These 6 habits take my attention everyday and urgent tasks are, counter intuitively, considered lower priority than these.
I essentially consider these 6 acts the crux of my life right now.
I do have a general idea where my life is going, but not thinking about those goals and results helps me focus better on these habits and being present and focus on the NOW.
I am sure, my long term goals would automatically be fulfilled as a byproduct of these habits which constitute my lifestyle instead of being the main product or the primary concern.
I would love to have a discussion of the habits you guys have which make you a better person.
