Just wondering. A lot of people seem to enjoy reading...I'm not one of them. I think its partly due to some of my attention span shortcomings.

I hate reading books, news, even articles in maxim. I look at the gadgets and things like that.

Skipped reading in school...basically winged my responses from the in-class discussions and piecing books together.

Work? I don't really need to read or analyze stuff all that often.

Just wondering.

My attention span has definitely decreased over the years (but the number and scope of my life responsibilities has increased).
I find magazines, and reading stuff on the Internet to be perfect for getting the information I want/need.
Plus, as time goes by I realize that life is precious and short, so I do more "filtering" - ie quicker to drop a newspaper, magazine or book that isn't holding my interest.

But please, don't give up on the idea of being "in the know" and "well-read."

Having a working knowledge of current events and their background, and a good vocabulary puts you in good stead in many walks of life.

Great resources are out there for us. Wikipedia.org, for example, is an amazing free online encyclopedia.
Next time you hear of a person, place or event that you're not familiar with, go to the site and look it up.

I still read a lot because not only does it teach me stuff, it allows me to use my imagination and creativity.

I think in future, we'll be seeing a decrease in reading (and anything that requires an attention span). As a result, people will become more impatient, jumpy, and bored easily. ADD will become the norm.

oh n mor ppl wil rite lik dis.

However, with the recent rise of readers when Harry Potter and LOTR came out, perhaps the world is not doomed.
