Questions about abs

please look at the following statements by my friend and tell me if they are true or not.


friend: for abs do alot of high rep exercises
friend: and do them like 4 times a week


friend: abs dont really grow like anythign else
friend: u just tone the muscle out'
friend: to have clear seperation
friend: if u do heavyu weights u just get a bigger stomach


Is all the above true?

I thought i was supposed to treat Abs like any other muscle group- 3 sets of 10 reps heavy weights. Am i wrong?

im lucky cause i can spend as much time as i want withiout doing any ab exercise and then i can do 1 set of 20 and the next day they already showing and nice shaped.

but it depends on your body.

If you want better results, you're going to have to put a lot more work into it than 3 sets of 10. Do as many burnout sets as you can, for as long as you can.

Everyone has a perfect 6 (or 8!) pack - all they have to do is get rid of the fat in front of it.

That's interesting. I've been working my abs with some heavy weight, and it seems like i am getting a bigger stomach. I lifted up my shirt and showed a girl, and she said, "stop trying to stick your stomach out..." but unfortunately, i wasn't.
Hmm, maybe i better try less weight and more reps. Two months until summer, so i'll try some different methods....

Everyone has a six pack, but not a perfect one. My stomach is as flat as can be but my abs aren't very big. I just use flat weights on my chest and do situps... I constantly up the weight so obviously muscle is growing.

working abs with weights will make your stomach bigger but when you cut down to like 10% bodyfat, you will have abs like a bodybuilder.

if you work abs with only high reps, then you will have abs like a marathon runner.

i suggest doin a combination of both, and never doing weighted exercises for the obliques. always do lower back exercises as well, gotta keep the body in balance.

I have a visible six pack and I dont do any situps except during ski season!

abs are muscles, they are like every other muscle...

why would abs be high rep muscles? do some machine crunches between 8-12 reps, and some cable crunches, do them heavy if you want nice abs. throw in some high rep crunches once in ahwile to cut them up

big stomachs come from fat both internal and external on the abdomen, they are also caused by steroids, hormones and whatnot
