I work out Mon-Thursday, using fri-sun as rest days. Would it hurt my training to drink one of these days? I'm not talking about piss drunk.. but pretty drunk. Enough to get a good buzz going. Assuming I didn't miss my meals and still got proper sleep. I want to drink at least one day a week, maybe play some beer pong.. but I've read that it makes your training go completely to waste. I'm 6'1 and about 145-150 lbs, my goal is to bulk up. I was heavy drinker in the past, ever sense I turned 21 especially. Drinking about a 12 pack everyday. I was the guy that was always hung over at work all the time.. now, I'm trying to get my life straightened out. I just started hitting the gym again, and went all week not drinking. My body is sore, and all I want to do is relax right now, but would drinking hurt me, even if I only did it once a week? I'm kind of worried about it.

I'm 30 years old. Drinking alot is over for me. I may drink 2 or 3 socially but no more than that. As you get older hopefully you will start to feel the same way. You don't want to be like the guys who never get that.

However, at 30, it's a little harder to me to be in peak shape. Sometimes i think back to what could've been had i slowed down to 2 or 3 a week back when I was in prime fighting shape. If that's really your goal I would give it a real shot and tone down the drinking.

I actually have toned it down. I haven't had a drink in 8 days. Which is actually me quitting cold turkey. (Just one day realizing, like hey.. I want to start working out again. I need to quit drinking.) So that's what I did. And This was me going from drinking anywhere from a 6-12 pack EVERYDAY. I decided not to drink last night either.. but I did something just as bad.. stayed up really late. My body is so soar. It's 1:44 PM and I JUST woke up. I guess I just need to start taking this a lot more seriously. I already missed my breakfast, so now I'm just going to have a gigantic lunch and hopefully catch up in calories for today.

I think it depends on the individual. Different people have different alcohol tolerance so it'll affect their training in different ways.

I've noticed that if I drank alot the night before, I usually have the strength of a little girl at the gym the next day. But once in a while I've gone to the gym hungover and set PRs. It's weird.

True.

What blows my mind is the "Jersey Shore" phenominon. Are these guys juicing or what? How the hell can you be that huge, and seriously get drunk at a club EVERY SINGLE NIGHT?

It blows my mind.

I guess I've came to the conclusion that I'm only going to drink once a week. (During my rest days.) Probably just a couple beers tops. No black out drunkness like I'm used to.

I'd be willing to bet everything I own that they're juicing. Those guys are too stupid to understand diet and regular training, and too reckless to carry it off.

Obviously you still have to hit the gym when you're on steroids, but at least they can just go and mindlessly lift weights for an hour or two and not have to worry about the more complicated stuff.

I wouldn't rule out implants and cosmetic surgery with some of those guys too.

Thanks for the link. Rep+

And yeah, look at "The Situation" for example. His upper body is huge, but his bottom half is tiny. I even remember one of his female house mates insulting him about it in one of the earlier episodes. You could blame it on an imbalanced routine, but I think they're doing more than just dieting and hitting the gym. Either way, it kind of irritates me, but I swore to myself I would never juice or use any illegal substances to try and bulk. I want to keep it completely natural.

Steroids, cosmetic surgery, implants, etc.

I saw a picture of "The Situation" that actually showed his legs once. They're so tiny that it looks completely ridiculous. Doubt he could squat his bodyweight for a rep. But the chicks don't see your legs in the club anyway bro, so why put the work in?
