Spring Break is in a month and I'm wondering what sort of routine I should be doing.

I'm about 6ft tall, around 180lbs, and I'm lean muscled. What that means is I'm a little bulky, and I have a 4-pack that's decently defined, but am neither huge nor shredded.

I want to get into better shape for the beach and I figure a month is sufficient time to make some small changes.

So...

Should I do Starting Strength? Get a little bigger and stronger at the expense of a little bit of fat?

Or should I do Insanity? Get my abs cut a little nicer and increase my muscle definition?

Which is a more realistic goal?

My friend Thomas and I had an argument about this on Facebook, claiming that my abs won't be strong and defined if I don't do some resistance training, while I argued that they won't even show if I don't burn some fat and blahblahblah.

The quicker the response the better, because in about an hour I will either do my first session of Insanity, or continue on my Starting Strength routine.

Please help a guy out, peace.

your body is for LIFE, dude, so don't limit yourself to 1 month, or 1 year, either. Get and stay fit and you'll have another 10-20 years of ENJOYABLE life than if you let yourself go, and/or eat stupidly.

I think what twentee is saying, is that there isn't a program that's gonna get you all jacked and tan in only one month. That is just reality. Unless you wanna resort to steroids...

I'd say go body weight exercises and sprints. And go carb-free with tons of protein. It's really that simple.

Find yourself a park with some playground equipment, do dips and pullups. Do some pushups and sit-ups. Run 10 40 yard sprints with 15 seconds rest in between.

Won't gain much, but you'll definitely improve what you have. You don't have the time to gain anything significant, so concentrate on making yourself appear lean and solid.

No more keyboard jockeying . Action is the place.
another day, another person attempting to change their body is such a short period of time. doesnt anyone know what hard work is anymore? Not even, if youre on steroids/ph's you still have to work hard if not harder to see great results. I know people who have been on steroids and havent gained a pound. Start researching.

first off all , crossfit is lame.
Second, if you go strength you are talking about a powerlifting approach. Have you seen those guy ? unbalanced and bulky huge , not cut.

Third. I say you do something along the lines of German Volume training. allowing you to lift heavyish, use high volume, gain a good amount of mass and at the same time lose a bit of bf% depending on your diet.

Research research research.

Ok, I know you get a lot of noobs in here thinking they can change themselves in a month or two...READ MY QUESTION!

I have a short amount of time to make a small difference. I asked which would be more realistic in the time I have; lose a few pounds and get a little more cut, or put on a little more mass. Keyword LITTLE. I don't expect to go from what I am now to some Brad Pitt lookalike.

As for the rest of your post, thanks for the advice.

To clarify: BPH has been working out for over 2 years, doing various programs such as Starting Strength. He's not a newcomer, but he's simply searching for the best choice to make over the next month regarding aestethics.

In this case, it's probably all a diet thing. Eat nothing but fish, chicken, broccoli and brown rice. (Rice after workouts).

As long as he's hitting his macros and fibre requirements, he's fine. Such strict dieting isn't needed.
