I'm a skinny twig, with toothpick arms.

So I've been lifting for a while now. I'm 5'11 and I weighed 155 a few months ago. Now I'm 162. I know I can get to 170 with enough eating.

My question is, will I put on muscle or is there a chance I just end up with a gut and still skinny arms? Does it always work? If for instance I am not lifting enough and still gaining weight, will the only thing that grow be my stomach or will I still see results? I mean, I'm lifting to the point where I feel the burn..

I guess my point is, is lifting + gaining weight enough? If I get to 170 and have nothing but a gut I'm shelling out money for a PT pronto

It depends on your diet and workouts.

If you are getting stronger and eatign clean foods you will gain muscle. If you eat excessive carbs and junk food and your workouts are poor (i.e. you dont gain any strenght) I can guarantee you will only gain fat.

Its quite simple really it isnt a case of will I gain fat or muscle!!!!

Eat clean foods, follow progressive resistance training...eg..increase reps, weights each workout and your mucles will grow.

Also, you can monitor and adjust if you are waist and stoamch is getting bigger but not youar arsm you know something is wrogn so stop and change it. If youar arms are gettign bigger and more msuclualr and your waist remaisn the same you know you are gaining muslce.

How one can let themesleves get fat is beyond me if you have common snese and slef awareness you monitor your progress and make necassary cahnges, evaluate training and diet.

Oh btw you think your a twig lmao...I was 5'10 115lbs now 140lbs lmao...I wish I were 5'11 155lbs lol..Id be huge!!!

Anyway just eat 3000 kcals if no gains try 3500kcals

Only eat clean foods and you can be sure to gain less fat.

Meat
eggs
fruit
vege
oils
fish

etc...

Not too many simple carbs or sugars.

As for training just follow a begginer routine such as full body 3x per week Rippetoes strength training or HST

Or follow 3 day split...chest+tris...legs...back and bis

If you arent getting more reps or weigh teach week you are not gaining muscle

either due to

A: bad diet
B: not enough calories
C: Bad training- form, exercise, overttaining, undertaring

I can tell you it took me years of trianing and diet to figure out what works for me to gain pure muscle. But everyones different so what works for me may not work for you

A simple approach that worked for me was to get stronger on a few compound exercises

Chin ups
Pull ups
Dips
Squats
Military Press

I would perform these exercises 1-3 days per week..And each week add weights, reps.

For exampel, at 1st I coudl do 1 chin up. I can now do 3 chin ups with a 15kg weigh tplate strapped on me. I can do 20 chin ups bodyweight.

In this time my arms have grown 2 inches with no fat but still tiny 12.5 lol

Amazing

WTF???

is lifting weights and eating protein going to make you fat with skinny arms?

YES, if calorie intake is A LOT more than you need. but I bet thats not the problem - it is WHAT you eat that counts. protein, clean carbs, good fats

anyone can eat cheesburgers and lift and get fat and muscular - and many do. I've only met 2 guys in my life who could do it and be ripped but they were already big, so may be their calorie maintanance is different

Muscle is different from fat. Fat does not convert into muscle or vise versa.

If you work out and eat protein and carbs you will gain muscle
but if you eat bad food while working out you wont reach your maximum potential muscle gain and you will gain fat(from the bad food)
