I am probably gonna rework my routine in a while, so i am thinking about whats better.. Lets say a 3 day breakdown:

chest/tris
back/bis
legs

or

arms/shoulders
back/chest
legs

anyways, it seems that the first way is almost like the bulking/powerlifter way, every day has a major muscle group working

on the other hand the second way is more of a divide and conquer/bodybuilder/cutting way..

nevermind, those are kind of dumb analogies.

and whens the best time to do deadlifts with this??? deadlifts always mess with my routines.. ;)

Muscle group splits are so bbing.com/men's health that it's laughable.

From the complete newbie up to five or six years of experience I'd say push/pull/legs every time. And by experience, I don't mean you're 25 and have been 'working out' since you were in your teens, when all you did was bicep curls and bench press.

If you're naturally muscularly developed and/or especially strong (without having trained for years), then maybe you could do something more advanced but you still have to be dedicated and mature enough to make it work.

In short, I haven't seen one person on this forum (except maybe Mind and semag) who won't benefit from a solid, hard powerlifting routine (i.e. three big lifts and complementary compounds). Not to say what they're already doing isn't working, just that they're still in the stage of building up a powerbase which they can, in a later stage of training, refine and bring up troublesome areas, etc.

The chest/shoulders/triceps, back/biceps/forearms, legs/abs split is basically pull/push/legs anyway. That's all you need.

Really, I wish I could've started just doing powerlifting. See a heavy powerlifter diet down for a bbing show and he will blow away the bbing opposition. He'll be twice as thick as they will be, and despite not hitting the body 'from every possible angle' he'll be optimally physically developed. Basically, inside a big powerlifter is a massive bodybuilder.

For you, push/pull/legs is what you want. Deadlifts are a pulling exercise and therefore go on pull day (with back width, biceps and forearms).

i agree with everything you said.. I am just stuck on this stupid fitness vs. growing crap.. Maybe i'll just commit to bulking for the next 3-4 months.. even though i hate some of the belly weight i've been gaining.. :(

i do have about 2-3 years of pretty solid experience, but then also 3 years of nothingness after that..

:(
