Okay, i've been using optimum nutrition for awhile now and i'm getting worried. It doesn't taste like a protein shake. With all the other shakes i've tried it tastes gross and the consistency is just ...ewwwww.

but this stuff, i actually look forward to drinking now. milk + scoop of optimum nutrition, it tastes like a chocolate milkshake and MIXES well. It feels like im cheating or something. How do i know Optimum nutrition isn't just chocolate powder? ... getting paranoid i know, but i can't help it. There is such a difference in taste and consistency that with milk it tastes...really good.

anyone else have their doubts?

If there's any brand of whey you can trust for quality, it would be ON.

ON = the ONE. just don't get lazy with the rest of your diet - it may taste good but it's a supplement, not a food source ^_^

ah..that's good to know. I've been eating a lot better for a while now, started gaining some numbers. My weights also gone up which im not too happy about so i've got to hit cardio harder i guess.

x 1 steak
x 2 chicken breast
x 2 ON protein powder (like the highlight of my day - it actually leaves me feeling guilty)
x 5 servings of veges
x 4 servings of fruit

sometimes i gimp on the fruit and vege's but only cause vege's taste horrible. Are you allowed to eat fruits at night? sometimes i get really hungry and i don't know what to eat...
also, eggs. It's so hard to eat them hard-boiled. i'm thinking i might take x4 raw eggs with my shake...but...raw eggs, i'm guessing the eggs would have to be really high quality free range eggs? organic? Wouldn't my cholesterol shoot through the roof with so much egg consumption?

Just because a woman listens to you and acts interested in what you say doesn't mean she really is. She might just be acting polite, while silently wishing that the date would hurry up and end, or that you would go away... and never come back.

If you look at the label you can see that a lot of ON is whey concentrate rather than isolate.

can you explain the difference between concentrate and isolate and why it matters

Concentrate contains less protein, more lactose, more fat, more carbohydrate and more calcium, and is cheaper.

Isolate is useful if you are lactose intolerant, have digestive problems with concentrate or just prefer isolate for whatever reasons.

To search1ng:

Is that all you eat in a day? No wonder you're getting hungry, I could eat all that in one sitting.

What are your goals? Gain weight/lose weight/gain strength/Brad Pitt in fightclub?

As for the eggs, yeah, free-range organic are better if you can afford them. Start out with one egg and increase to whatever over a few weeks. And dietary cholesterol doesn't affect blood cholesterol.

ON states it uses 100% protein isolates. well the thing on mine says that anyway.

and..are you nuts? i ain't eating more... i'm getting fatter as it is. Well..i dunno if i'm getting fatter but i feel hungry but my gut feels tight..it's a weird, weird sensation. Also I'm trying to gain lean muscle. i weight 74kg at the moment and my bodyfat is probably around the 12-15% mark so i'm eating clean, lifting heavy and working the treadmill/swim a few times a week.

want to get down to 8-10%. Don't really care if i look like Brad Pitt or ryan renolds. I just want to look good with a 6-pack. Although Ryan renolds from blade did have a really nice body.

You won't gain muscle and drop down to 8% bodyfat at the same time. Pick one and stick with it. You're at a decent bodyfat already so I'd just go for gaining muscle.

From what I can tell you're eating moderate protein, low fat, low carb (depending on which fruit and vegetables you are eating). As such your metabolism is likely in a 'WTF?!!?!' mode which, along with the low calories, is the probable cause of your hunger.

To put on muscle you need a calorie surplus, and I can't see where that's coming from in your diet. And if you really do want to gain weight, at 163 lbs you'll need to eat at least 240g protein per day (1.5g/lb of bodyweight).

Go with the carb version of the diet at http://www.sosuave.net/forum/showthread.php?t=134782 and see how you get on. If you put on too much fat you can reduce the carbs and increase the fats.

seems like 6 pack means everything to you. in that case you don't really need weight lifting and it probably is easier for you just to eat whatever you eat now and do more cardio

If you're getting fat off a couple of chicken breasts and some fruit/veggies then something is amiss. What do your activity levels look like? Your lifestyle may be too sedentary, and in most cases doing lifting isn't enough.

If I were you I'd boost my output significantly(cardio/lifting/etc) so I could eat more.

maybe a year of heavy lifting to build up some bulk to prevent him from looking scrawny, followed by ripping out to a lower body fat % and getting a 6 pack, sounds more like the OP's aims to me :)

I don't know what super duper ON whey you have but this one shows concentrate on the label.

http://www.gnc.com/sm-optimum-nutrition-100-whey-gold-standard-tropical-punch--pi-3251234.html

Exclusive blend of Microfiltered and Ion-Exchange Whey Protein Isolates, Ultrafiltered Whey Protein Concentrate, and HYDROWHEY® Hydrolyzed Whey Peptides.

I can't believe you guys still use whey isolate anyway when it's like $8 per lb and you can get concentrate and gemma for half of that.

mrRuckus, I'm as hardcore as they come and even I hated the taste of gemma protein.
There is no reason in my opinion to use a pure whey isolate unless you are dieting for a contest, even then, you can still get away with a whey blend of concentrate/isolate like ON has or recession whey from trueprotein. The other case would be if you have a severe lactose allergy.

That wasn't the point. Someone mentioned ON quality and its quality isn't super. It's just tasty.

I mix gemma with flavoring. What's the big deal? It's not the trueprotein flavoring, which i also have, but it doesn't matter.

I use to drink whey concentrate with no flavoring with nothing but splenda in it when i first started taking whey.

You're not hardcore as they come. They wouldn't be selling it if no one is drinking it.

You guys really should look at trueprotein now. I'm almost out of gemma and I hadn't looked in a while but they're selling whey really cheap at the moment. Even isolate. The link i put above has ON whey at $8/lb

Concentrate is $3.80/lb
Ultra Whey Blend $5.00/lb (isolate, hydrolyzed, and concentrate mix)
WPC/WPI Blend $4.80/lb
Gemma $4.65/lb (no advantage anymore. really was when whey was $8/lb)

It differs a little if you buy 25 or 50lbs at a time. It's unflavored but buy your own. 5% discount on top of these prices.

Another difference is that the ON's weight includes the flavoring and other garbage they put in there. Trueprotein's weight is nothing but whey.

I'm about to order whey concentrate. I think this faster absorption stuff is for the birds. I take most of my liquid protein not around workout anyway but just as another 25g of protein along with a whole food meal. Why do you need faster absorption anyway if you just ate a while ago and it's trickling protein into your bloodstream all day? You don't need a flood of protein all at once if there's already in there! And damn, what's the difference if you take concentrate before than workout than if you take isolate after... wouldn't it be hitting the bloodstream practically the same time after the workout? Only problem i really see with concentrate is if you're a pu55y and can't digest lactose (kidding)

I did drink a lot of ON whey when it was cheap and like $38 for a 10lb bag. Mint chocolate was delicious.

All i have to say is bless the recession. Cheap gas, idiots buying houses they can't afford living in the streets which always brightens my day, and cheap whey. What good news for those of us who save our money and live within our means rather than being consumer wh0res.

usual week:
morning jogs x 5
swim x 2-3
Weight lifting x4 1-2hours.
basketball prac x3 a week.

what i eat has been listed above.
And 6-packs aren't everything, i'd just prefer them over having a gut. I also want to gain some size, but something that looks proportional to my height.

edit: i read my ON label again, got a little confused, sorry seems it is concentrate. Still, it mixes well and tastes great and it's protein either way.
