Hey Fella's.

I premix my shakes in the morning, protein in water, blended in a milkshake maker (no lumps). then i take them in a plastic bottle and drink them after a workout.
My friend told me that its bad to do it like that. Apparantly the protein loses its effect when sitting in water? it doesn't make sense to me (logically).

Can anyone offer some insight on this? Cheers.

Does your friend mean you should mix it with something else? If so he's wrong, protein shakes (assuming whey protein) should be taken in water for rapid absorption PWO.

If you leave it a while it doesn't so much lose its effectiveness as such, but the digestive enzymes/probiotics often added to protein shakes don't work if you leave it too long, which means the shake may bloat you (I've found this with a couple of brands, not all).

I think your protein shake would survive an hour or two, but don't make it in the morning to drink at night ..

I forget the science and whatnot, but in general, at "room temp" protein in water should last just fine through a normal workout. At lower temperatures the protein lasts longer, and conversely, at higher temperatures, the protein goes bad more quickly.

If you're going to pre-mix your shakes, it's best to do it as close to your workout as you can.
