Ok, i dont know how many of you eat them, but by just tasting them, i am guessing not a whole lot of you do. they taste like ****, and last time i bought a whole pack, i couldnt even swallow one whole bar... does anyone here know how to eat them properly? Are they that effective? what are their main purposes? i would change my diet completely if i knew how good they were for me... are you supposed to eat the protein bars with something else? which bars are the best/most effective/best tasting...?

I've been eating them recently since I've run out of Whey Protein Shakes the other day. And damn, are they expensive. And they don't even taste even close to as good as the shakes I had.

Most of the protein bars have Whey in them and then some other crap that isn't good for you. I say go buy some Whey powder and mix those up. Protein bars are just too expensive for everyday consumption, where as the protein mixes are much more effective and cheap.

As for taste, heh, they're alright. Eat them like you eat normal bars. I thought my protein shakes tasted like crap when I started, but later on it just started tasting like chocolate milk and I started to really like them.

Protein builds muscle. It is generally a good idea to eat protein after hard workouts to help refuel and regenerate. Muscles aren't built at the gym, they are beat and torn up at the gym and then rebuild and grow at rest. Protein is necessary for that. Whey protein, which is in most protein bars and drinks, is a fast absorbing protein that is good taken directly after a workout because it gets into your system very quickly. But it's just a supplement. You still need to eat well, meats, vegetables, and carbs in the right proportions. Read up Diesel's guides in the Health Forum.

If you want bigger arms, I recommend joining a gym and working out your whole body. Having a strong base is much more important than just having big arms. You never see anybody with huge biceps but a small chest and an unworked back. Just get to a routine and work out.

I don't know how big your arms are, but if you're just starting out, you probably won't need these bars or shakes yet. They are good for you, but you'll see gains in the beginning very quickly. Don't let supplements be the main source of your growth. It's between working out and diet that gets you where you want.

I've heard that Snickers (TM) has released a line of protein bars that are low fat, and have the taste of Snickers bars. Mmmm. Someone give us a report on those protein bars - i.e. taste, total fat, protein (how many grams?), etc. :p

Protein bars are inferior to shakes in every way (taste, price, quality). Except, they are very convenient and portable. When it's simply impossible to mis up a shake (lunch break at school or at work) I'll sometimes eat a bar.

I've had a few Protein Plus bars and Joyrides, and they were pretty good.

i use Met-RX Big 100 Bars

They taste good, i can get them cheap ($1.99), and they are high quality

each bar has about 25-30g protein, 45-55g carbs (not too much sugar) and lots of vitamins/minerals

I especially like them because they are not just protein

Met-RX protein plus bars are another tasty alternative and i believe they are almost entirely protein
