Yea, it's embarrassing but do any of you guys who take protein supplements get constipation problems? I mean I try to eat fruits and all kinds of stuff that will alleviate this but nothing works. I feel like I'm giving birth out of my butt or passing rocks man. I have been ending up taking Milk of Magnesia or some kind of laxitive, but that leads to diahrrea. Anybody else have this issue?

I always say, increased protein = increased water.

Also eat more fibre, you should be fine.

I don't know man. I mean I drink a LOT of liquids - probably 2 gallons a day, and I try to eat low calorie stuff like fruits and vegetables 'cause I'm trying to loose weight too. I'm trying to get the "cut" look so I don't eat too many calories and the only way for me to get increased protein is to take supplements. I'm going by the 1 gram of protein for every pound of body weight rule so I'm trying to get 175 grams of protein a day, and the only way to get the increased protein without the calories is to take the supplements.

And it's like serious constipation. Blood in there and all that - I mean, it's a workout just taking a dump! I just don't want to end up with butt problems and I don't want to become "addicted" to laxitives either....

Blood? I would see your doctor! It may just be anal tearing but it could something pretty serious.

are you SURE it's two gallons a day?

plus.. if you're eating low carb then constipation can be an issue, hence an even greater need for vegetables. post up your daily diet..

The constipation only happened since I started taking protein supplements. And if you pass stools like these, there's bound to be some tearing in there. I mean, it's bad dude. I feel like I'm passing bricks (dried bricks). LOL :nervous:

I often skip breakfast or eat a bowl of cereal or some cookies or whatever. When I first wake up I drink a protein supp (whey protein). Lunch is a sandwich with some lunchmeat (salami, turkey, whatever) with a protein supp. Dinner is a frozen pizza, or some canned thing like chili, or spaghetti or a burger or whatever, with a protein supp, and sometime before bed I eat an apple, or orange or some kind of fruit with another protein supp.

I'm trying to limit my calorie intake to under 2000 calories (I'm 6', 175 pounds) 'cause I'm trying to lose a layer of fat around my stomach so my 6-pack can show through. So I try to not eat much.

you won't lose fat like that - search the forum for fat loss.

and you eat no vegetables, hence your constipation. add some broccoli, cauliflower, asparagus, spinach, peas, anything you like.

I've lost about 45 pounds in about a year. I used to weigh 220, now I weigh 175.

I don't know dude, I can bench almost twice as much as I could a year ago, so my guess is I've managed to gain muscle while probably losing much more than 45 pounds of something. Since I haven't gotten any shorter my guess is I've lost a lot of fat.

The whole point is constipation anyway. LOL

Hey man, first thing, get to a Dr.
Once that is cleansed from your mind, start balancing your diet out. Even if you gotta take Metamucil!

Start eating a couple of servings of beans per day. High in protien, high in fiber.
Switch your bread to Granny's Delight Whole Wheat Fiber bread. one sandwich will get you 12 g of fiber. Make your cereal Raisin Bran or Frosted Mini wheats. Throw in 4-5 servings of fruit and veggies. And top it off with as muc water you can drink.

If you're not pulling in at least 30-40 grams of fiber then you have no reason NOT to be constipated. I'd bet you are getting 12-15 grams a day right now.

I guaran-friggin-tee you'll be crapping like a goose within 2 days.

There are supplements to help with that that are really high in fiber. I.e. Fish oil capsules or straight fish oil will help you out a lot. The bleeding is normal with a drastic increase in protein intake, as I've been warned about it before from a personal trainer.
