Ok, so Ive been weight lifting for 1.5 years, and my mom has never really supported me in this and has always encouraged to find some other sport. Seeing as Im pretty thin and want to gain weight, theres not really another alternative.
I lifted seriously for a a year, and then started slacking off and became partly apathetic. Just recently, Ive gained new motivation, and started going at it seriously again with diet, supplement, and hard working out. I was so psyched, having my eating schedule worked out, ready to hit up big three like no other (I used to no deadlift), and got my big tub of whey protein (just started eating this stuff...never had it before).
So anyways, my mom some good reason to be worried now. Firstly, our family has a history of high blood pressure, and appearantly docs used to discourage weightliting for people who have high blood pressure. Im gonna have to do more research on this, but the first website I found said thats no longer the opinion, but it wasnt from a "research" site. IT was from mayoclinic.com, but im not actually sure that was the mayo clinic. But anways, this isnt the thing Im most worried about.
I have 2 brothers, and my mom remembered that one of the boys had a hernia problem as a baby, and they had to perform surgery on it. As a result, this may have made the muscles weaker or something, and that weighlifting could cause some major problems with this. Now, she told me she was sure it was NOT me, but my oldest brother is fairly sure it was me cause he remembers it. My mom is geting old, and her memory is failing, so Im not sure who to believe. She is going to try and get medical records to see who actually had to problem.
So until then, I have to put off lifting. And if I find out I was the one to have the hernia problem, I dont know what I would do. I would be fvcking pissed, and Id probably have to stop lfting forever. Does anyone know anything about this at all? My friend thinks that since it was as a baby, maybe its no longer a problem now. Im not exactly sure what the problem was in the first place, so I cant give too much detail.
