I've heard of these exercises, they are supposed to be a way to get rid of social anxiety. The idea is if you can go out and do all these outlandish things without getting embarassed, you've been desensitized enough that you won't be afraid of approaching or normal social situations. It's not that different from going out and collecting 100 rejections really.

I think RSD may even have used some variations on this idea.
