Everyone thinks potato chips are the worst thing for you.
It is the ideal fatty food.

But i Pick up a bag today, and the ingredients were:
Potatoes
Sunflower Oil
Salt

and that was it.

Aren't potatoes and sunflower oil both good for you?

Well, they only have 150 calories and 10 grams of fat per serving. Oh yeah, a serving is only one ounce; about 11 chips. Eat your way to a healthier you!

Lays are deep fried I believe, nothing deep fried is healthy in my opinion, go for the baked chips they are way better. If you wanna eat chips get sunchips, theyre multigrain and the probably the healthiest chips out there...on the brighter side....

I'll eat the baked ones, and yes, that's all they have in them. Nothing extra. I like the kettle cooked ones. That fat is healthy, the salt I dont worry about,so its all good. There is about that much sodium in 2Tbps of PB anyway. I also like multigrain chips and I even LOVE the black pepper and olive oil Triscuits. Good source of fiber too.

Aren't chips cooked with partially hydrogenated oils?
Some flavored ones are, but the majority of plain ones aren't. If they were, according to FDA labeling guidelines, it would have to say that on the label. And companies like Lays and what not would never take that risk.

Any starchy food cooked at high temperatures contains a cancer-causing agent called acrylamide. Only very recent research has discovered this acrylamide in food, and no one seems to know what to do about it. Baked chips are even worse than fried in regard to acrylamide, but both have levels of the chemical that should be unacceptable in food. The WHO has been funding research about acrylamide; the most recent that I have seen was a big list of the content in different foods. Levels of the same fast food item varied significantly at different restaurants.

fwiw, I still eat chips and fries, but just don't delude yourself about it being healthy. Load your chips up with guacamole, humus, and salsa, and you will eat fewer, making it a healthier meal.

I was thinking the same thing. lol

Bible: The main thing we have to remember is that everything should be done in moderation. If we dont eat organic fruit, do we REALLY know what is on it? When we go out to eat, do we really know what is in our food? We (as Americans) eat so many artificial things its not funny. We have artificial this and that, we have TONS of colors and what not in candy and other things as well.

I LOVE starburst, and on the package it has Red 40, Yellow 6, Yellow 5, and Blue 1.

There are even concerns now that too many of these things are messing with our children because they are eating more of this stuff then they ever did.

They are talking about hormones in some tap water out there.

Grilling chicken and steak and all of that is a NO NO as well when you look at it in a chemical point of view when grilling. So when you eat that char food, watch out.

The point is that you can only do so much. You step outside, and you have no idea what is in the air. You drink your water and HOPE its ok.

Most of us I think take things in moderation. I dont eat candy all of the time, I dont have grilled food all of the time, and I dont eat fried starches all of the time.

I try to eat organic veggies and fruits, but sometimes I dont, so I wash it, and then beyond that, I have no control over what's on or in it.

This isn't even covering using deodorant, and skin care products like soaps, shampoos, facial products, etc etc, and all of those chemicals.

We do what we can, but eating some chips are better than others. So if you can try and take out the old hydrogenated ones and replace with the ones made with pure sunflower or what ever, and maybe reduced sodium, you do better than you did before.

Yeah.. being too anal retentive or a nazi about anything isn't healthy (too focused on the future.. not getting all one can from the here and now). The information provided here are awesome guidelines to follow.. but rules were made to be broken on occasion for variety in life.

However for me chips/doretos.. I swear their is some secret ingredient in them that makes one eat the whole damn bag at a time. lol
I just don't buy them anymore. ;)

you may actually be onto something. doritos, for example, contain up to four (FOUR!) different ingredients that are all basically equivalents to MSG (hydrolyzed vegetable protein, etc). this is also the "secret ingredient" in KFC (ignore the marketing, there is no patented blend of herbs & spices -- it's just flour, salt, black pepper & MSG).

MSG makes stuff taste "savory"... i'm not scared of it the way some people are, but it makes stuff taste "meatier" -- which causes me at least to want to wolf them down, even when they don't necessarily appeal to me (i don't really like the flavor of doritos -- too artificial -- but i can still polish off a bag if presented with the opportunity)

MSG, herbs, spices, and all of that stuff is going to make you want to eat the whole bag. Some companies are so good with food science, it's scary. Chips are one thing companies are good at. Not heavy, crispy, and full of flavor.

It's like certain kinds of bubblegum. The taste is so good, you want to eat it. There are times i'll chew a piece and just want to eat it. But we all know we aren't supposed to EAT gum.

It's a cruel world out there. lol

It probably all depends on the brand you buy.
Ever have the type made with soy? Don't think the craving would last with those. But now they're saying that soy isn't good for you in large quantities either.
