Post some ethical questions or statements that are in your mind.

Give me some ideas, this is for school.

For example:

Eating meat is wrong.
Abortion is wrong.
Smoking pot is demoralizing.
You should be good or Santa will not give you presents.
Should I kill the terrorists who are about to kill 100 people? I thought murder was wrong.

Why is it alright for them to make hotdogs in packs of ten and hotdog buns in packs of twelve?

Not to change the subject, but did you ever wonder why getting high is a crime?
yup, ive thought about it. the point of this thread and asking you guys for these kinds of ethical issues is because my class is doing a project on exploiting the knowledge issues that correlate with these ethical issues.

well, that would be up to you to decide. but think about this, what do you base your decision on? how do you know what you know is right? this is what we try to uncover in my class.

im not asking for much. i just need ideas. whether they be subjective or objective is none of my concern. i just want to see what kind of ethical questions people have in their mind. this is not meant to be a debate or flamewar of some sort because of conflicting views, although this type of behavior is expected from posters because people believe what they know is right and other people are wrong unless they agree with them.

Is it unethical to sleep with another man's wife if a) she wants to; and b) if you do not believe in Christianity/marriage?

Its his opinion. Right and wrong are human ideals. Yes, its ok to kill 1 terrorist in order to save 100 lives...utilitarianism my son.

Is it right to invade a counrty half a world away and liberate it's people from a tyrannical dictator, yet do nothing while the indigenous people of Mexico are being starved to death by their own federal government?

Don't even get me started on human slavery. Little girls in my own home town vanish every day. Or the drug runners shooting up the country side... not the mention innocent people who get caught in the cross fire.

And yet nothing is done about it.

so what, stop being so selfish. we need to protect people in other countries before we can protect ourselves. that's what this country is all about.. the way you fix the problems at home is by ignoring them. the most important issue right now is that we have to save jews.

Right. Uhmm, well... my point wasn't about what is going on in this country, it was about what is going on right next door as opposed to what is happening on the other side of the freaking globe. The problems that I spoke of in this country are a direct 'ripple' effect of what is happening south of the border as I am typing this sentence at this very moment.

And I'm not quite sure if you were trying to be sarcastic, but ignoring problems is a sure fire way to let them grow out of proportion and beyond all control. For example; if you ignore your wife at home (and a wife might as well be considered as a problem), you are likely to find yourself devorced in a relatively short amount of time (which, in fact, might not be such a bad thing after all because marriage sucks ass).

comprende mi amigo?

If I put a gun to someone's temple and pulled the trigger but the gun didn't go off, much to my surprise, am I just as morally accountable for murder as if the gun had have gone off? Would a society be just in punishing this crime just as harshely as murder?

Is it acceptable for the government to make laws that pertain to personal choices about our bodies (IE, which drugs we take, abortion, what if the government outlawed tattoos?)

Is porn debasing to women? Is it debasing to men?

If I offered someone $200 to cut off his finger and he gladly did it, did I do something immoral?

Do animals have rights? If so, do they all have rights, or just some of them? What about trees, do they have rights too? How about the planet as one entity? Does Earth have rights? How do we decide what "rights" animals have and don't have (for example, you might argue that animals have a right to life, but you would never argue they have a right to vote).

Is it immoral to kill yourself?

Is it any worse to kill an animal of an endangered species than to kill an animal that there're plenty of?

In some cultures it is common for 30 year old men to marry 13 year old girls. Is this immoral?

You have to choose between saving the cutest puppy ever born, or the worst man who ever lived. One will die. What issues are of moral weight in making this choice?

Is it immoral to steal from someone who will never notice you stole from them?

you shall not swim across a river to another country and then wave your flag in some sort rally that supports people who also swim across rivers to the country you swam to.

Never try to read a woman's mind. It is a scary place. Ignore her confusing signals and mixed messages. Assume she is interested in you and act accordingly.
