POF clampdown on 'dirty old men'????

got this e mail from dear old Markus, founder of Pof....Im sure it wasnt just me though!!!

"My name is Markus and I created POF/Plentyoffish. When I created POF, I wanted it to be all about finding relationships with the right person. For the first 7 years this worked really well, I got the site to 10 million users without any employees people and POF was generating a ton of relationships. Around 3 years ago, everyone started using the website via mobile phones. Today about 70% of POF use is via a mobile phone and unfortunately about 2% of men started to use POF as more of a hookup site mostly due the the casual nature of cell phone use.

In sticking with my vision that POF is all about Relationships, I'm going to make a bunch of changes to ensure it stays a relationship-focused site.

1. Any first contact between users that contains sexual references will not be sent. Anyone who tries to get around this rule will be deleted without warning. This rule has actually been in effect since last month and it's made the site so much better.

2. You can only contact people +/- 14 years of your age. There is no reason for a 50 year old man to contact a 18 year old women. The majority of messages sent outside those age ranges are all about hookups. Anyone who tries to get around this rule will get deleted.

3. Intimate Encounters will go away in the next few months. There are 3.3 Million people who use the site every day, of those there are only 6,041 single women looking for Intimate Encounters. Of those 6,041 women, the ones with hot pictures are mostly men pretending to be women. Intimate Encounters on POF can be summed up as a bunch of horny men talking to a bunch of horny men pretending to be women.

In short the vast majority of people will not be impacted. This is because the vast majority of people are not going around spamming women saying "let's have sex tonight". I can't change POF alone, I need your help to get the word out there that POF is all about relationships! Bollox!!!!

Was seriously about to post on this. The +/- 14 years is going to have no effect on me because I'm still within range to talk to just about everyone.

But holy sh!t at this lame @ss trying to act like POF isn't what it is... It's a site for s!uts to fvck the same guys and then complain about getting pumped and dumped in their profile; so other guys come along and see that the girls are easy.

There's NO site on the net that leads to more random people hooking up than POF does (And I'd say Facebook is a close 2nd).

2% of men? 2% of men? 2 F'n % of men? I'd guess 2% of men are looking for love on POF. And alllll the rest are looking for hookups....

It's the d@mn lecturing tone of his message! Trying to tell people what's appropriate means to message people. As if the women can't ALREADY set what ages can message them. Or BLOCk any user she wants at any time.

I received this message as well. The site has gone down hill...horribly in the last few years. It's almost to the point where you really don't want to even admit you're on there. Very low quality women in my opinion. I did like the site originally back in the day, it was the old faithful for me. Nothing else going on...hit up POF.

Because it's free, like this site, it doesn't stop trolls from creating fake profiles and messaging the actual few and far between quality women on that site, eventually scaring them away. It's good to see that Markus is making a concerted effort to clean it up.

I see lots of porfiles from women, professing wanting the relationship, the good guy BS , the same profile has them with t1ts dripping out, plenty of thigh, short skirts etcetc... there acre clearly lots of women on there to hook up until they snag some poor cvnt into a raw deal, what he/she doing about that?

No actually it isn't believe it or not. When I first got on POF, almost four years ago, I met some quality women from there. HB 7's to 9's. Now sh1t, when I'm on there, I can't even locate an HB9, much less, go on a date with one! The site is horrible right now. I've said this in other posts about POF, the sight is full of slvts and low quality women. HB6's are getting 100 messages a day and starting to act like HB10's. It's a joke.

But, that being said, POF is a site that was good to me in the past, I wouldn't mind if the site got cleaned up, as well as it can be. In doing so, hopefully it would attract some higher quality women.

Free or subscription...doesn't matter. The online dating industry has one concern: make money. Stopping trolls means less money.

Well, he is a business man. And, I agree he's interested in making money. No doubt about it. But POF is in a downward slope....and he will be making NO money if this keeps up. Seriously, my profile was deactivated for months until recently, and I'm about to deactivate it again. It's like old girl you keep touching base with, hoping she's lost that 20 lbs and returned to her former self.

He's in damage control mode right now, trying to save a sinking ship. He sees where the sight is now and where it's going. The reputation of that site alone is doing him damage, not bringing in as many new members. He knows he's gotta do something. Whether this is the best idea, maybe not, but at least he's making an effort.

Given that looks are the main reason why women give you numbers online, why do men play this game if any troll can make a fake profile?

this can only be a good thing.

if you read most girls profiles all they talk about is the +50 year old pervs on the site. if it gets cleaned up then it might become good again.

I was on there and i cleaned out my sent messages box. about 75% of them had deleted there profile at one point or another.

most girls get 100+ messages from creepy guys. they just get sick of it and leave. this is going to drive some of the scum bag guys away.

NOTES: i did make the fake account. then tried to make a real one. the real one got deleted in like 10 mins. so he must be working hard on the site to stop it.
