Because people pay for it!!! Also, the Dollar is plummeting in value - so $45 is minuscule in today's dollar value vs. past's value!!!

Because you will pay for it. But if you don't, one of your friends will. And if they don't, a local bar will. However you slice it, someone's paying for it.

Supply and demand.

I don't want to get into big discussion here, but boxing fights cost so much money because the promoters don't give a fuk about the future of the sport or the physical/financial health of the fighters. They wants to make as much money as possible TODAY, rather than building foundations on free TV ala Spike.

This is why MMA is gaining in popularity, despite being less entertaining (most ppl watch MMA for the stand-up anyway, who wants to watch two BJJ experts grapple for 15 minutes?). It is organized and managed much better, with accountable and likable representatives. The charisma and humble demeanor of Dana White vs the corrupt murderer Don King.

Because the people selling them are not the promoters. These are brokers, scalpers, etc. who will throw the highest value and then negotiate it down to a "cheap" $1000/ticket, or whatever they can get for it.

I have gotten into several concerts at a ticket price way below face value because the scalpers wanted to get an outrageous price of having bought an expensive ticket that didn't sell at the asking price and they had to eat it.
I see these guys trying to "dump" these tickets that were bought and taken out of the market with the hope of reselling them.

So, in summary, they can ask for $100,000 for it, yet it doesn't mean somebody will pay for it.

$45 to watch, that is actually a bargain for you. The suggested retail price is $55 for this one fight. PPV's have always been around that range, specially in the last few years.

Agree with you on the first part but no way is boxing more entertaining that MMA. People get KTFO all the time in MMA and it's a lot more fun seeing someone get kicked in the head or choked out.

Does anyone know how much they are getting for this fight?
