Pick up artist movies

[Paradox]

I've composed a short list of movies for aspiring pick up artists to study. Each of them contain a few "tricks of the trade". The ones that I highly reccomend are "The Tao of Steve" and "Swingers" these are 2 of the best.

Title: The Pick-Up Artist

Synopsis: Lady's man Jack Jericho goes through life without a care in the world, seducing one woman after another. Intrigued, Jack continues to pursue Randy, in the process helping free her alcoholic father from the huge gambling debt he owes the mob.

During their martini-fueled odyssey, the duo and their buddies explore an altogether new vernacular while struggling with images of machismo, self-esteem, relationships, and, of course, sex. Lead actor Mike Favreau based the script on his and his friends' real-life Tinseltown adventures.

Synopsis: Dex (Donal Logue), an overweight slacker living in Santa Fe, excels at charming women. The reason behind his success is apparently "The Tao of Steve," a pseudo-philosophy, largely about dating women, developed by Dex and his drinking buddies. While this lazy lifestyle with no commitment seems to work, Dex gradually begins to realize there’s something more meaningful missing from his life. When he meets Syd (Greer Goodman), a beautiful set designer, Dex discovers the Tao of Steve isn’t a foolproof way of thinking, and must get in touch with his real emotions to get the girl of his dreams.

Isn't it funny how most of those movies (except, IIRC, for "Swingers" and "HTBAP") ends up with the player realizing the value of true love? But it's still a good list.

Any Jack Nicholson movie ("I always like a little p*ssy after lunch.")

And oh yeah, Aztec's right--I remember "How to Catch a Thief" now and it's a great movie.

i am totaly with you on the point of how the players always find "true love"
most of the time its gets on my nuts.its a bit sh!ty and makes most of them pridictable.
its done for a number of reasons.tho' in would be cool to see a movie,where that does not happen!

i saw it a while back...but i thought that What Women Want was pretty AFC? what were some good things that one learns from that movie?

Some good movies indeed!

Swingers is by far the best DJ flick I've seen. The characters more or less play by the rules and get bitshcmacked when they act like AFCs.

Tao of Steve was so-so. Very anticlimactic and full of chump moves on the part of Dex. Very, Very, VERY unrealistic ending... if you put too much faith into this film, you will come away more of a chump than ever before. The only useful things that I got out of this film were the Tao of Steve itself (three simple yet effective ideas to put in practice) and a good laugh every fifteen odd minutes or so.

Cruel Intentions got the ball rolling for me. The male lead has a killer instinct and as much of a DJ attitude as imaginable. I made up my mind after watching this film a couple years back that I would get ahold of the soundtrack and oh yeah, stop being a chump. Not as informative as swingers or as straightforward as Tao, but a pleasant start.

Master the Game or Master the Bate

One of the best examples of the effect of the AFC and a DJ on one woman was in a movie that I saw years ago on TV. It is from the 60s and has the ridiculous title "the Pad, and how to use it", but it was outstanding. It is not available on VHS or DVD as far as I can tell, but the Leonard Maltin film guide says that it is based on a play by Peter Shaffer titled "the Private Ear".

I know this next one is a strech but what about the original "Nutty Professor" movie starring Jerry Lewis? Anyone think there is something to glean from this one?

I watched this movie the other day on HBO called "100 girls." It had a no name cast, but it was quite good.

The character was a college freshman in search of his soulmate. That may sound lame, but it offers some very ammusing insight that would give us striving DJ's some more fuel in our ever-fulfilling flight of complete DJ knowledge.

lucien779: Imho, What Women Want only goes AFC towards the end. The 1st 2/3 of the film are pure brilliance! The approaches in the coffee house are great examples.


Just saw another great film with Mel Gibson last night: Maverick!

This movie is ****y + funny all the way.
Some great scenes like Mel saying "I don't want to sleep with you" followed by Jodie Foster demanding "why not?"

Also Jodie Foster wants a lift down from the stagecoach, but Mel takes her sunshade instead. Then she falls over, wants a helping hand, instead he gives her back the sunshade lol!

Boiler Room and American Psycho are also good as they featured alpha male characters.

A movie about a square who finds out his girl is cheating on him and is now back on the dating scene.

His brother is a major pick up artist of the Mack level. He teaches his brother the art of game.

It even describes how to truely look at a womans body language and other player tips.

I have two one not so obvious...

the first is Unfaithful...there you will see the DJ contrasted with
the AFC.

The other is The Elephant Man...this one is not so obvious to all you playahs. But consider that even the Elephant Man could get some play because he was fascinating man and a curiosity of sorts....should take care of all those "I'm not good looking enough" questions....
