In the age of cell phones and selfies, photography is becoming a lost art. In fact, most professional photographers only do weddings these days. This presents an opportunity.

Being a professional photographer mainly takes three things: a (real) camera (not your cell phone), a portfolio, and lots of practice.

So last week I got a $500 camera and asked the two most gorgeous girls I (hardly) know whether they would pose for a (clothed, PG-13) photo shoot in which I would control every variable: their makeup, hair, outfit and setting. I offered to pay them a small sum, but only about what I would spend on a first date

I don't think I've ever got so many text messages, or thoughtful text messages, or 5 part text messages in my entire life as I have this week. They have sent me every detail of their entire lives, email, relationship status, measurements, preferences, and photos. These girls are both equally ecstatic about the idea of doing real modelling, and especially want some real photos of themselves in their prime (ages 22 and 25).

Note that I'm not approaching this as an attempt to score as much as a way to have fun and build a portfolio that hopefully gets more girls equally excited to pose.

It begs the question as to whether photographing women professionally ultimately leads to more dates or more frustration.

Do you have any first or second hand experience with photographing women?

Having worked 2 years in a breastaurant, saw tons of older guys run photographer game. Girls ate it up--some of the dumber ones got stuck with nude photos on the internet and no recourse since they signed contracts. Heard of one or two guys scoring, and it could've been well more than that; but for the most part the guys who cleaned house were loud bar regulars, usually middle aged and divorced, who often got in fights, didn't tip much, and had girls comping their tabs.

But whether you're a creepy guy with a camera girls use for validation or a photographer who happens to get laid, really comes down to game. Sounds like you have the right of approach.

This venture into photography ended up being the secret to finding my dream girl, and to becoming a professional photographer.

Since I posted this OP 15 months ago I worked with two models, the first one becoming a romance, and the second one becoming one of my greatest loves. As a bonus, our whole relationship was captured in vivid 24 megapixel (no nudity).

It turns out that women get very turned on when you direct a legitimate photo shoot.

What's more important is that now that I have a physical portfolio I can show the other girls I know (and perhaps even walk up to them) and ask them if they have done any modeling. I tried this yesterday and she scored very high.

A huge key was using professional photo rating service, photo feeler.

Bumping this as I'm currently dating an actress. I'm thinking about getting into photography and could use her as an experiment. At the same time, I'm not going to be an instagram orbiter. Have any of you tried this with your plates?

I have friends that are models. It is a relatively tight community. If you want to be a successful photographer then nothing will kill your career faster than getting a reputation as someone that isn't professional (i.e. hitting on chicks, having cheap equipment, taking mediocre pictures).

Good photographers are experts on makeup, lighting and angles.... they know how to make women, and what they are wearing, look their best on film. Much of this takes a big investment and the ROI is long.

Women love having their picture taken: women hate bad pictures.

You want to be a successful photographer? Then spend real money to get good equipment, practice practice, practices, and when you are at a photoshoot... approach it like you are fixing a car, mowing your lawn, painting a room. You are doing a job... the 'model' is a prop, not a woman. You are there to work... that is it. The best photographers I know are pasty looking middle aged dudes.

I've work as a fashion photographer, in general you won't pull any (hot) girls unless you're good looking and/or a really talented (but it's not a guaranty). Girls just want photos to get validation on social medias and they will make you think that you have a chance so they can get free pics.
I'm also a photographer - though I've never shot fashion, and only very rarely done portrait work.
My bread and butter is shooting products for online sales - The nearest I get to photos of people in general are an occasional wedding (proms are also becoming more popular in UK lately) and an occasional foray into street photography.

I've had several G/Fs though, who absolutely LOVED getting their photo taken by someone they know is a pro, using what they would call a 'proper' camera, lighting setup, etc... Always got them turned on, and led to he bedroom.

However, professional models on a paid shoot.... Agree with RangerMike and mikedee.... Don't get a rep for hitting on the models - Not only will it damage your career, you'll probably end up on a 'meetoo' into the bargain.

I'm going to wade in here with my expert opinion that you need a good camera and lots of practice. Feel free to DM me for more earth-shattering advice.

Well I'm here to tell you there is such a magic wand. Something that will make you almost completely irresistible to any woman you "point it" at. Something guaranteed to fill your life with love, romance, and excitement.
