That thread got me thinking. People who are bipolar(myself) get extreme highs, which I use to my advantage, when im on a high no one can touch me. I can get almost every girl around me, talking to 5 different people at once and keeping up no problem. When im on my lows thats a different story, for a different time.

Alot of makes sense. People who are very empathetic have balls and dont care about the outcome as much.

People who are narcissistic, usual goal is just to get laid and they set out and learn as much as they can..etc

Whats everyones thought on this?

Dear Squirrels,
"My opinion is that pop psychology is not an effective use of people's time." Hmmm....Not sure,in the sense that Psychology is a Pseudo Science, then everything about it is "Pop"...but one needs to support ones personal philosophy on a formwork of sorts, and there are some valuable rationalisations of Human behaviour that one can usefully pick up.

Dear Crissco,
Your posts are always, interesting and rational....this eruption of Bi Polar diagnoses is a bit like Aspergers Syndrome, seems they can fit anyone up with a Tag....a Young Man of my acquaintence, got a little drunk one night ended up being locked away, heavily sedated and counselled by trick cyclists,His Father told me in shocked tones this was purely on the basis of his having proposed to a Bar Maid and several other young Women, and standing on his head whilst attempting to down (Or Up?) a glass of beer....What is the World coming to when a young Man,showing the exuberance of youth, can't kick over the traces, without ending up in a padded cell?...Shades of "One flew over the Cuckoos nest".

Ehhh some of them. Ide say most of them are "in the moment posts" lately. LOL..Not always a good thing. But thank you.

Thats what I always thought to, "diseases" are spit out left and right, pills are pushed to much for money. The real criminals are the Pharmaceutical Comapys. In all honesty tho they really work. Sometimes to well.

We all know the key to life is balance, sometimes I think why not use some of these things to my advantage is we have them available? Then it goes back to is it a cruch..etc Its a never ending cycle lol

To me what you said is an extreme case, we've all done stupid sh*t(Im the master at that haha) There is such a thing as self control. Even though that kid was acting out of pure insecurities, he shouldnt of been thrown in a cell for that.

Even though I think it would of been worse in the 30s because thats when most of the drugs were being made, and the gov't was known to use people as lab rabs, so im sure they use every known chance to experiment on people, the world is getting pretty bad and something has to be done. There are innocent people being convicted of crimes everyday, that shouldnt even of happened in the first place, now im getting off topic haha ,but you get my point.

That's true...but when you start getting some armchair psychology student picking up a DSM-IV and starting to label the "mental disorders" of everyone around him, that's when you start getting into trouble. It generalizes both a person's personality and your expectations for them when, in reality, the "label" just indicates a cluster of symptoms, not a repeatable condition with repeatable behaviors across multiple people.

Because people no longer communicate face-to-face and socialization is no longer a necessity of functioning in today's society, people are slowly losing their ability to simply recognize, understand, and respond to social patterns in others. Instead, they feel a need to slap labels on everything...as if labelling something they have NO understanding of somehow places it within their grasp.

I'm not saying this thread outright does so, but it DOES flirt with it. As do all of these "BPD/Cluster B" threads. Just because you can slap a "Cluster B" label on a girl doesn't mean you understand sh!t about who she is or why she does what she does. All it means is that she hurt your feelings because you didn't know how to handle her (or when to NOT try to handle her) and placing a "mentally disordered" label on her makes you feel better about yourself.

The original article is "on" in that it encourages people to USE their personality "disorders" to their advantage in social contexts. But threads like this take us down a dangerous road.

Sorry...this is just something I feel very strongly about lately.

A couple of things I agree with you with. One the fact anybody now a days anyone can label you with something(if you think hard enough you will prob start to believe it, diffrent story diffrent time tho), esp someone right out of school who has no right to label anyone with anything. Who gives someone else the right to label you as something when in fact they most likely have no clue what there talking about.

Two when a guy gets hurt because he cant handle the girl he automatically thinks BPD, Cluster B to make him self feel better.

I posted this thread for while. The thought of having a mood disorder and picking up girls have been on my mind way before this. This thread isnt about just BPD or bipolar, its about personality disorders in general. Also this thread just started, give it some time to expand. Im waiting for guys like Atom Smasher, Rollo...etc to charm in and see what there opinions are too.

I couldn't open the original link, but here's some Wikipedia info:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Personality_disorder

I think its important that these things are diagnosed by a professional, since I for example can see aspects of myself in some of those listed.

But does this mean I have the disorder? Probably not.

All you can do is work with what you've got and be the best person you can be. It is never a level playing field.

And in the end what is normal? Who says the standards of society are right?

- Getting married, a house in the suburbs and kids?
- Working in a stable job for 40 years then getting a cheap watch?
- Enjoying 10 years of retirement before you die?

To a lot of people that's normal. To me that's insanity and waste of a life.
