Im set on a non ipod thing, iriver looks good and interesting, anyone have one of these? H10, H140, H320/40?

What mp3 players do you recommend?

i have an ipod nano.

though, i also have an iriver ifp-795. i don't use it any more though. it does, however, have more features than an ipod...fm radio with tons of presets, voice recording up to 20hrs, and even longer batter life than my ipod...around 25-40hrs on one AA battery. iriver is actually pretty good quality. the only thing i didn't like is buying batteries and also the software that comes with it sucks.

i would recommend the nano.

There's this semi-indestructible mp3 player that looks like an ipod (similar size).

The damn thing is made of metal and you can run it over with your car and it will still play!!!

Ok, so why do women not wear the same underwear as men?

Think about it.

No, iPods are wonderful, well the old ones at least, I only know one other person with a 3rd gen but they are by far the best (right before the click-wheel came out) Honestly though, its all preference, when you go to the store try and get them to show you a demo one, cause some have god-awful controls, and you don't want to have to deal with it. I still say iPods have the best system, and most user friendly.

yeah i was all about hating on Ipods but then a friend let me borrow one for a weekend and I was hooked. I bought a nano and then sold it for a vial of LSD(a value of 600 dollars).

What you're asking makes no sense nor does it shine any light on why this guy won't buy an IPOD. He's saying he won't buy one ,despite how technically sound and useful it is, because it is as good as everyone swears.

You should think about it.

My song collection is small less than 300 songs and I was dead set on not being an Ipod trend follower so I bought a "Sandisk Sansa M250" (2gb). It cost a little over $120 I didn't need nothing fancy my song collection ain't that big I just wanted to listen to music. I bought it because it has long battery life (1 aaa alkaline battery), fm tuner/voice recorder included. It took me a week to decide what mp3 player to buy, I read dozens of reviews and sites. I waited so long to buy an mp3 player and im happy with the one I bought havent had a problem but like a week later the new versions came out with color screens for 30 bucks more :(

I can't recommend anything since I don't know your basic needs and how many songs you have, but I suggest you take your time before you buy. For the same price or less than the price of an Ipod you can get a player that has fm tuner/voice recorder included and other features that the Ipod doesnt. If you do want an Ipod I would say to wait because a new version is coming out in a few months (so you dont end up like me buying something then a new version comes out soon after).

Before you make your decision on an mp3 player go to the sites below where you can get news and reviews of many different players. Iriver h10 is a good player. Creative zen vision m is better at video than the ipod (has 260k collors compared to the ipods 60k), and it has support for divx and other common codecs for movies. Sandisk just came out with newer versions of the sansa model. All 3 of these have fm tuner/voice recorder which the ipod doesn't include.

Technically sound and useful? Now you're spouting crap.

There are better players than the Ipod. Get over it. It's not made of gold.

Good post Joe, yeah my reqs, (im pretty "down" with technology you see ;))

Line-out, for connection with not just your PC

Lightweight but maybe up to 20GB so a balance

Win98 compatible

Playlist capability

Good batt life

Non-ipod because, 1. Im no sucker for an apple 2. I want to drag and drop, no itunes BS

Maybe colour screen but its not important

Im kinda torn between getting a lightweight 5gb and a 20-40gb player as the prices are so insignificantly different!

Karmasutra,

Fair enough. I'm a fool and you're a tool.

Ipods are decent mp3 players, but they aren't the best (For the price or any other way). They are by far the most popular mp3 player, but I'm not going to buy an Ipod just because it's more popular than other brands (Besides, you can't put wmv files on Ipods). I did my research before buying one, and bought one that has several gigs more space, better sound quality, doesn't have the battery life issues that older generation Ipods have, you can put wmv files on it, and it isn't so mainstream that almost everyone owns one.

You mean wma.

wma = windows media audio

wmv = windows media video

yeah I have a 3rd gen ipod. the black and white screen with the touch buttons instead of click wheel. the button letters glow red when the backlight turn on. it looks sick as hell and althought it's a little thick compared ot the new ones, i still love it and it hasn't failed me.

although i recommend to anyone who does get an ipod, please buy a screen protector since i scratched my screen once and you can see a little mark in the right light.

but please, people don't hate on ipods and apple jsut to be "different." that is lame. if you don't like apple give valid reasons other than "everyone else has one blah blah. imma be a rebel." give me a break. that's not a valid reason at all. i pod is the most popular and it's that way for a reason

PEACE
