Hey guys

I've recently been told by an friend that I dress, bluntly, "like a geek".

I'm not so much just interested in peacocking extravagently but also in getting basic dress sense down so I don't stick out as 'uncool'.

So far I have browsed the net a lot for free information and have come up short.

I am strongly considering buying The Art of Peacocking but I don't really want to part with any cash before making sure it's a decent book.

I've read his free peacocking articles here and here and it seems like good advice but again, I don't exactly dress well myself so I'm not the best person to judge.

Also I've been reading menshealth.com, is it just me or is that advice all aimed at high flying business men? there doesn't seem to be much advice on just looking 'cool'????

Thanks guys!

Hmm, a few catalogs or magazines could help you get the idea. Off the top of my head, look at some Nordstroms catalogs, maybe GQ or Mens Journal or something. There is a fine line between looking stylish and looking gay, but those could at least give you some ideas. You don't have to spend a ton of money, but pay attention to the way fitted shirts are cut.

If you've got muscles shirts that are a little elastic without being as obvious as Under Armor type stuff can be good. Even if you just by one or two shirts that fit you perfectly that can give you a good boost. For me I like stuff that hugs the back a little with sleeves cut high enough to show some tricep.

The cloths don't make the man look good, its the Man that makes the cloths look good.

Hit the gym, grow some muscles and build up your body. Your body is the best method of Peacocking available to you.

Right. One time someone complimented me on one of my shirts, I said real cooly, "Yeah, I look good on it."

I agree. The most important thing is if you feel you look good. People can tell when you're trying too hard.

abercrombie and fitch or hollister is the way to go. I went from wearing fubu, south pole and all that crap to preppy. Never looked back and it makes me stand out more especially being black. The clothes fit nice and you feel good because you know you look good.

Definitely... All the Hollister /A+F clothes seem to fit me perfect. That and you usually get a lot of compliments from the HB's. "Oh I love that shirt...."

Inner game is the most important thing to work on.

It also depends on who you are trying to attract. The girls I am interested in (intelligent, sexy-librarian type) are not into guys walking around like advertisements for seven different clothing companies. They seem to see through that type of vanity. They seem much more interested when I wear a plain t-shirt and jeans.

Thanks for the replys guys. Yeah I understand that I need to be comfortable within myself first & foremost & I like to think im on the right track now but I understand that things just dont happen overnight.

Anyway, I dont think I fully understand the concept of peacocking as in yet, so I was wondering what you guys think of this funky necklace, would it be classed as peacocking?

LOL, I would say yes. However I recommend you think twice about the whole peacocking thing. Sure, you can get people to notice you by looking like a clown, but that isn't the sort of attention I want myself.

I'm getting more attention from women than I ever have, and here are the main reasons:

1) I've been working out a lot and it's starting to show
2) I'm confident
3) I'm putting myself in social situations where I can meet people
4) I bought some clothes I look good in

Work on the basics, you don't need the necklace.

cloths won't help you if your still the same scared little boy underneath...so you look up to your friend huh? what makes him so great.
floydtheheater07 I like the hot libranian type too, but can never find em...Me and you are gonna have to get up and talk.
Alphamale I am black and dress kinda preppy also, I wear jeans my size polo shirts, j-crew, mens express and some other stuff. Not too much trendy aero, hollister, abercrombie or american eagle. Dunno what do yall consider preppy.

I have a home boy who is the ultimate geek, and is proud of it, thick urkle glasses and all, but in a setting where he is chillin with girls he can pull bithces all night, why cause he is ****in cool. Clothes are asessories not so much nessities. (don't streak)

Have you ever seen Mystery the so called seduction expert. The guy seems like a complete loser. You do not want to peacock like he does, painting your nails black and wearing sunglasses insider a club. He is a joke and so will you be if you lower yourself to the level of wearing a pink hat and painting your nails black to gain attention.

herpes, learn the basics of dressing well. If you have absolutely no sense of style, peacocking will be equivalent to polishing a turd.

The most important thing is to find clothes that fit you well. You can but expensive threads but if they are loose and hanging off you they will look like ****e. Get stuff tailored if you need to.

Forget Men's Health. Go out and see what the coolest guys are wearing. Go to a clothes store and look at the mannequins.

Buy tshirts that have funny sayings...that will make people read what ur **** says...buy shoes that u like .....

I dont give a **** what people think...but I like being comfortable and looking good....fit the occasion.....and always let the close fit you...not the other way around

....Always buy for u not for everyone else .....

Thanks for some stella advice guys. Yeah dont worry coz I firmly believe I dress really well (without sounding like a knob). The problem im getting though is more a case of there are LOTS of really well dressed guys out there which makes me feel like im blending in. Thats why I want to master peacocking which to ME would be peacocking very subtly in a way that doesnt look like im trying to get attention but I still achieve the desired effects. Do you know what I mean or am I just rabbling on again :) ?

I think that necklace is well funky though. Obviously im not going to dress extreme & peacock like someone like Mystery because I wont be congruent with it. I think thats why peacocking has such a bad name coz of guys trying to actually BE Mystery. Its scary.

Anyone got any examples of good peacocking?

Thanks guys for some stella info though.

I read "The Game" and honestly, Mystery came off like a total loser. His appearance on Conan was nothing short of laughable, as was his "pick-up" videos on youtube. I would not want to dress like that, let alone pay money for funky crap he wears.

The concept of "peacocking" is to attract attention, but you can do that in much more subtle and normal ways than wearing capes and pretending you're a magician. That's just weird. I'm glad it works for him, but it's definitely not something I'd model.

herpes, you had it right the first time.

You say you're worried about blending in... it's not about the clothes you wear but the attitude you have wearing whatever it is you've got. Look at what is cool to you. If it seems right, makes you feel good, then start wearing it!

I saw that commercial for Mystery on VH1 too... crap. I'd seen him once on YouTube... in the book the Game it comes off much more interesting.

You have to really BE an eccentric, crazy person like that to pull it off.

The way you can set yourself is apart is how you approach, and the fact that you approach at all. Peacocking might help you get some IOI, but rarely are girls going to come to you regardless of what you do.

Dude I believe that peacocking is effective when done right, as in you are comfortable & congruent with it.

My brother just bought that book that you mentioned The art of peacocking & he said its good soo far but like I said to him, why pay some one to teach you how to peacock?

Yeah the Mystery show is going to be a train wreck, im sure of it :)
