At the gym today...New gym actually, that's why I bother to bring this up.

As one does for every new gym...You walk in, sniff the air, walk around the machines and various contraptions, scope the gym rats and see if they know what they're doing, check the squat rack to see if it's any good, etc..

Anyways...Over by the dumbbells/mirrors I notice two pretty big guys. Guess what they were doing? Just guess...

They were doing bicep curls. Not just any bicep curls though. They were doing 3 x 8 of the 10lb barbell!!! 10 fvckin lbs!!! It's almost incomprehensible. They were moaning and groaning and all but ****ting their panties as they struggled to get the last rep up. Meanwhile I struggled not to laugh...Like honestly, at one point they had what looked like the 5lb dumbbells in each hand doing agonizingly slow reps of curls/hammer curls, groaning and screaming at the mirror until all 24 reps of 5lbs was done, while his buddy looked on and encouraged him to squeeze that last brutal rep out....

Most pathetic scene I've ever witnessed in a gym.

Any of you guys have some funny/shocking/pathetic gym stories?

P.S. It wouldn't bug me as much if they were skinny guys. But no, they looked about 200lbs...Whatever

Yeah dude, you have no idea what they were doing before those curls.

Back when I used to do bicep curls, I would start at a weight where I could do 5-8 reps, rep to failure, and with out resting, go towards the lower weight with out stopping. I would go down to 2.5's eventually and was struggling to do that.

I think even doing bicep curls at all is pretty pathetic lol.

There are a couple of kids that come into a gym I frequent who arrive together and go straight over to the bicep curl machine, where they alternate set after set between themselves. After that they leave. Pitiful.

I saw Ronnie Coleman doing 40 lb. bicep curls... hey, if you're benefiting from it, who cares?

BTW, stop gossipping, it's fruity.

its a discussion forum. In the health and fitness section.

BICEP CURLS with 10 LBS.

perceptions of weight training sure is messed up. its so true though, I've seen guys who looked relatively big, start to work out near me ( they had just arrived) and they were pushing out tiny weights and doing all isolation work.

Granted, I didnt watch em the whole time... had my own workout to do, you know

so it is quite possible that they were doing more sets at higher weight later, but they seemed to be struggling with the little weight they had, so I didnt think it was just a warm-up set. plus doing your light work before moving onto heavy work? thats just bad time management. other than a few warm-up sets, do your heavy work first while you have a full tank of gas.

Remember, big guys lifting little weights for high reps are volume trainers; the impression of bigness is given by the 'fluff' they gain through sarcoplasmic hypertrophy (a result of the pump). However show me a big powerlifter who doesn't look like a tank. :D

You don't know much about hypertrophy(building muscle) do you. I think when you actually get as big as them, than you can judge.

It's hard to ignore two guys moaning in a high pitch squeal while doing 10lb curls.

Who cares what they were doing before the curls. If they are struggling with only 10lbs then they obviously have way too much volume.

I know enough to know that what they're doing is not good.
