Oneitis.
The ultimate.
The only.
The ideal.
The perfect creation.
The consummate being.
It's not just applied to women, though of all our earthly desires, a beautiful woman sits atop the apex.
Think of the last material possession you coveted?
Or how about the last job interview you had where it was assumed ALL of life's happiness would be released IF you just got THIS job?
Or that dream car you craved for so long?
What did you do ONCE you had it?
Did you want something yet greater?
And if you didn't get it, were so dejected your ego and self-confidence took a hit?
You see...Oneitis isn't just something that afflicts your perception. It's something that infects your whole world. It's out-come oriented. It's based on your perception that ideals exist, when, as we know, by definition ideal speaks of only 1. So if any ideal exists, everything else can't be, precluding any possibility of copies.
You may think a situation has to be ideal, such as a party or club scene.
Perhaps your attire has to be ideal before you make a move.
Perhaps a business situation must be ideal to begin a new venture.
Or better yet, maybe your diet must be perfect BEFORE you go the gym.
Life isn't a rocket launch. And even rocket launches begin with the construction of a rocket given to the lowest bidder.
Life is only acheived in any way by getting underway. It's not acheived by awaiting the 'perfect' situation, the ideal situation. Oneitis is a mental affliction that speaks of perfections, of ideals. Quite frankly, all I've ever known in life is that nothing is perfect, rarely do things go as expected, and when they do, it's not that fun anyway. If life went as expected, imagine how boring that would be??
Oneitis stems from the frame that life offers perfection. Perfection is found where imperfection lies. In nature, as things are, they are perfect. You do approach a tree, an animal, or a building and ask it to change. It is as it is, because it was created as is for a purpose. The gaul some women, and men have, to ask another to be something or someone other than who they were intended to be defy that beings very nature. I firmly believe each person has a role a purpose in life, a purpose for being here, at this time, and to change that changes the nature of it. A path of self discovery is the only way to discover that purpose, even if you never know until the very, very end.
This isn't about a woman any more than an addiction is about reliance and dependency on SOMETHING.
I have an alcoholic uncle. While his dependency on booze is no longer present, his dependency on tobacco is now ever more present. He smokes cigars like they are cigarettes and chugs down supposedly non alcoholic beer as if its water, both no-no's. Even sex can be considered an addiction when it takes the forefront to other values and goals in life.
So for the guys who suffer from Oneitis, examine your own life. You may see more examples of it around you than you once knew. You'll see it take shape in waiting the arrival of perfection, RATHER than making imperfection work to your advantage. Rather than getting on the road to success, you await the perfect moment that bolster's your confidence. Not happening.
I've realized through my own efforts in golf that true success is only paid dividends through times of trial and tribulation. When no one is watching. When everyone is thinking you can't do it, or shouldn't do it. When you have felt beaten and left in the dust. Yet, despite it all, some underlying passion pushes you on. Perhaps it is a calling. But even after you're out of chips, you find a way to buy yourself back into the game, and now, having felt the stack get low, you know HOW to succeed where others must follow in your advanced footsteps. I say this, because I know it to be true.
