what if I do HIIT which will not take more than 20 minutes of my time along with an hour of low intensity cardio (6.5 km per hour at 15 inclination) which burns aproximately 850 calories per session. add to that some ab work and some pushups and I think I can reduce my body fat percentage, lose weight and look very very slim but defined. like brad pitt on snatch.
I want to look like that. I dont want to bulk up in any way, not even muscle mass. I want to look like chris cornell or brad pitt.
this guys are very very thin and slim but they are also very defined. think brad pitt in fight club. thats how I want to look.
chris cornell even said in an interview that he doesnt lift at all, he just skateboards and snowboards and stuff like that.
my goal is reaching 130 pounds. but I want all of that to be muscle. I am currently around 145 pounds and my height is 5 `7.

my workout routine for the past 3 months has been:
-1 hour of low intensity cardio exactly as the one I told u about above. burning between 800 and 900 calories per session and brisk walking bewteen 6 and 7 kms per hour.
-moderated ab work.

I started at 160 pounds. in he past 3 months I have lost 15 pounds. I am feeling better most of the time and people have noticed that I have lost weight. I do not look bad without a shirt.
I do not look amazing either. I look strong but agile I believe.
one thing I started to notice is that the guys at the gym who didnt do any cardio but lifted heavy weights, most of them look like they have smaller waists than I do. perhaps its because they have less body fat. I dont really know.
anyhow Im getting kinda exhasperated but lifting heavy weights is not an activity I enjoy. but If I can keep triming down and reducing body fat by doing 10 to 20 minutes of HIIT as well as keeping more muscle mass by doing a few push ups and very small weights Ill be glad to do it.

thing is how can I do HIIT at the gym on the treadmill or the bike?
and do I do HIIT before the hour long cardio or after?

I think this is a possible approach for my objective. what do u think? if u have others Ill be glad to read them. please make suggestions.

the only thing I really know is my goal which is to look like brad pitt or chris cornell (the ex soundgarden now singer in Audioslave)
I want to have the kind of body this guys have.
Im not sure what to do to get it.
what do u think of my plan?

Agreed. Once you do HIIT, man, you feel like you may want to puke. When you do it though...remember not to go over 80% max heart rate (calculated by 225 - your age and 80% of that figure). Keep to that...and man, a HIIT session goes slowly lol.

I'd prefer to do HIIT on a bike rather than a treadmill...easier to go incorporate.

Yeah, and?
If you're not in danger of falling down dead after HIIT, you're not doing it right.

Sounds like you're looking for about 6% - 8% bodyfat which is very difficult to accomplish. I thinks you're doing good on the cardio, but if you shy away from weights, by the time you get to 8%, your body will have used your muscle for fuel, and you're just going to be weak. Like heroin addict weak.

What's your diet like? Age?

well, I did try the HIIT after the hour long cardio today and I probably didnt do it right since I wasnt close to fainting or something of that sort but I was pretty tired and my heart rate was up to the roof. I did 10 minutes on the treadmill without any inclination. heres how I did it:
for 5 minutes I jogged at 9 km per hour and after that for every minute 30 seconds were spent running at 13 km per hour and 30 seconds were spent jogging at 9 km per hour. When I reached 9 minutes 30 seconds I started running at 15 km per hour for the last 30 seconds in a big ass sprint and thats when my heart rate went bananas. I stopped at 10:05 feeling perhaps a little short of air and definetly very tired but recovered after just about a minute and went downstairs to do some abs.
how was I? is this the way Im supposed to do it or did I do something wrong?

I just turned 19 on april 26. I do not follow a strict diet but I am going to tell you what and how I ate today because its similar to how I eat most days. I am used to eating like this, dont know if it is positive or negative but I do not lack energy at all. I think Im at least doing something right since I have lost weight.

this is for today, tuesday, june 3rd, 2003:
woke up at 7:00 to get to class
around 9:30 in the morning I had one of those hersheys chocolate milk thingys. the little ones that come with a straw and everything.
then around 2:30 in the afternoon I drank about 200 ml of Splash which is this drink made up of several fruits with vitamins and stuff.
then I went to the gym.
around 5:00 in the afternoon I ate my first meal of the day.
350 grams of meat. juicy and well cooked without salt but with other condiments.
a bowl of lettuce salad with a good quantity parmesano cheese and cesar salad dressing.
a small piece of bread that has cheese inside, like the ones u get at some italian restaurants.
a few spoonfuls of goat milk candy.
around 275 ml of Splash.
500 ml of bottled water.
then I had lied down cause I felt very tired and fell asleep till around 8 pm.
at 9:30 I had the last food of the day. a piece of cheesecake with some marmalade on top and a glass of fat free milk.
after that only water. and I almost always sleep at least 3 hours after I had any food intake. I heard that if u sleep before 3 houyrs have passed that it somehow makes u gain fat and weight.

well there u have it, its not every day, but its similar. sometimes its fish or chicken instead of meat or sometimes I have a slice of pizza or some burritos or sometimes I even eat less cause I dont get hungry or sometimes (but fewer times) I get real hungry and eat more than usual. I used to eat more back when Iwas in 160 pounds but I think I have tought my organizm not to get that hungry anymore and my stomach has gotten smaller and it gets full more easily. Like in the mornings I rarely get hungry and if I do then I just askmsomeone to give me a small piece f what they are having, like one of their crackers or a few chips or stuff like that.

what do u think about my eating habits? are they ok? healthy and stuff? can I reach my objective with them? its not like Im having an eating disorder right?

do u think Im doing good on the cardio? I think so too, buteveryone on this forum just keeps saying long steady cardio is bullsh!t and stuff. I dont know what to believe. Im frustrated.
I think its great for my heart and my lungs and my weight and my health and stuff and it makes me sweat a lot and burn a lot of calories (today I burned 883) but people here just keep saying that u are waisting ur time with it and that u should do heavy weights instead and stuff like that. the sort of thing that is being said on the cutting up guide. but I like long cardio and feel good after it. and I think it does it more fat than it eats muscle mainly because all of us are mostly muscle. so u might not look ripped and musclebound with long steady cardio but I dont mind since I dont want to look like that at all. I always wonder what happens to all those guys with inflated muscles when they stop pumpìng wights or going to the gym. I think the results are usually nasty.
any advice on this issue?

if its so difficult to accomplish how do these guys do it? they must do something. is there a way I can find out their routines and diets by internet or something?
so should I do weights? I get easily tired by them. even the small ones. I am barely excersising my arms now but I can still do around15 continuous pushups (I can do more of course but I have to take a break and do another series) and I can still walk around on my hands. I started today at the gym by doing like 40 pushups. Im going to try and do 50 everyday and keep raising that number till 100 and maybe even more after that. thats for triceps, chest, etc. what do u think? what do u recomend for biceps?

what do u guys think overall? am I doing a good job? am I being healthy?

by the way, I also take just before I sleep centrum, vitamin C, vitamin E, 2 or 3 fiber pills and in the mornings I sometime take L- lysine since it heps batle throat disiease (I am a singer, one of the many things I do). I was also taking L- arginine at night but I stopped a few months ago when me and my mom went to see a doctor to see I I could still grow a few centimeters and he said that I could maybe up to 3 or 4 and I started taking this drug at night he gave me called catapresan. I live in Mexico by the way so I dont know if has the same name over there.

by the way, with the HIIT attempt I did, I burned around 130 calories according to the calorie inicator on the treadmill.
its about the same amount of calories I burn in 10 minutes of the long steady cardio. perhaps its because I have maximum inclination on the long steady andnone on the high intensuty?
I dont know if this matters but I just remembered it and wanted to mention it in case it does.

the hiit burns calories alot longer than the long steady cardio does.
i have a question though. its been answered before but i forgot what they said and i dont know the post. on the team that im on we have races that are 2 and five miles. a two mile one day and a five the next. what should i run to train for that. i do remember whoever answered my question said i should do one day of like six miles or something. ( more than i would ever have to run) and on all the other days do hiit. but i dont know how many days a week to run

I'm 12st 6...I think thats 178 lbs or something. When you run, don't do any of this foo foo crap, run like theres a horny YMCA guy after you.
I can't be bothered to do the conversion, but I'm pretty sure 15km/hr is about 10mph. Run for half mile at 8-9mph, then do a 2 mile run in under 12 minutes, and do a mile of 5*.2 miles spints, averaging 1min5 for each, then half mile warm down. Do THAT, and tell me you can walk proparly. Then remember you walked or rode your bike there, and you need to do it back for 3 and a half miles. That is how you train.
And who are these poofs you want to emulate...don't aim to look like a skinny git...or for that fact a big git. Just try and keep improving yourself..but just don't get complacent.
About that no weight...if you wanna tone up, hit the weights, high reps (above 20), low weight. You need to increase your matabolic rate if you want to burn off the fat, and you can only do that via weight training. Cardio lasts 45 minutes I think, muscle is on all the time.

Yeah, and?
Right off the top, your diet is horrible. If that's an average day, you need to eat six times a day, eat like 4x more protein, and cut out the cheesecake.

Also, if you're going to want to cut the fat, you need to start eating more healthy fats, like fish and nuts and such, but I think you'll be pleased if you just up the protein and keep doing HIIT two/three times a week.
