I was reading up on calories and dieting on

http://health.howstuffworks.com/diet4.htm

how stuff works.com

And it says that with my weight on a regular day i might need around 1800-2000 Calories. SOOO lets say I eat only 1000 calories a day. I should burn 1 pound of fat in 4-5 days right?

But then lets say I run 3 times a week and burn 300calories everytime. So thats adding onto the 1800 calories on the days i do run right? So 2100 calories times 3 =

6300. Plus (1800 x 4) = 13500 calories that my body needs in a week. SO if im eatin 1000 calories a day I should only be eating 7000 of that 13500. Meaning In that week I would burn about 3.86 pounds?

Am I doing this right?

you know what? You;re thinking about things too much.

This stuff is not rocket science.

If you want to get big theres some simple rules.

- Eat more than it takes to maintain your bodyweight
- Train heavy and hard
- Rest enough
- Sleep enough

If you want to lose weight you need to eat LESS than it takes to maintain your bodyweight, plus the above...

Cardio burns calories so essential if it took 2000 to maintain your bodyweight and you ate 2000 and burned off 300 with cardio you would be on the right track to lose weight.

Heres what I would do. I am assuming you are maintaining your bodyweight now?

If so record EVERYTHIING you eat for 7 days. Then total up the calories and divide by 7. There you have your rough maintenence weight. These formulas never work precisely as everyone has different jobs, metabolisms etc. I have a slow metabolism and a sit down job so someone my same weight could have a fast one and be a construction worker. We would require vastly different calorie totals to maintain our weights.

Once you have your number devise a good healthy diet. 6 meals a day, probably 40% protein, 30% carbs and 30% fat.

For protein sources use fish, eggs, lean meat, protein shakes etc

Carbs = oats, rice, pasta, wholemeal bread

fat = eggs, nuts, flax oil,. fish caps etc etc...

If you need any help with that let me know.

Train for 3 times a week with weights, couple of cardios and if after 3 weeks you don't lose anything drop the calories between 150-200 (not too steep)

Keep doing untill you are losing weight.

Starve yourself if you want. I wouldnt do it for anything.

You wouldnt lose all fat, you'd lose a bit of muscle too and you'll start feeling seriously flat. That is ofcourse before the illnesses you'll get because your putting your immune system into AIDS mode.

Everyone wants a fast solution, and no ****er wants to work for it! ;)

Well I'm here to tell you there is such a magic wand. Something that will make you almost completely irresistible to any woman you "point it" at. Something guaranteed to fill your life with love, romance, and excitement.

I just cant do that 5 meals a day thing. Also, My body only needs 1800 abou to keep running every day. 2000 or 2100 when I go workout. Is 1500 calories a day ok then for the 1800 and 2100 days?

I thought this same way... After a year of discipline, I am now able to eat 5-6 meals a day and only consume around 2000 calories. It's easier than you think... the problem is changing a routine you have been doing all your life :/

NEVER go below 1800. That is the absolute minimum for men. Below that, you will start getting serious health problems and will feel like crap all day long.

You need to create a caloric deficit either way. Your answer?

CARDIO!

Do more cardio.

As the great Tom Venuto once said; "Don't starve the fat, BURN the fat."

Good luck.

If you can fit all your calories and macronutrient needs into 3 meals then it's fine. The only real advantage of 6 (or more) meals is not having to stuff yourself in one sitting. The metabolic advantages of more meals a day is a fallacy.

There is a point where 3 meals a day just isn't going to cut it. You will stop losing weight, guaranteed. 3 a day and fat loss just don't go together.

*breaks out the boxing gloves* there you go guys.

Advantages for eating 6 a day:

Keeps energy levels more stable throughout the day, meaning your mental state often remains stable [unless effected by a bad/good situation]

Chance to eat more throughout the day, if bulking

Has an effect on your body in which your stomache can shrink, thus making it smaller. Simply makes you look better

Slightly increases the metabolism, we all know what that means I hope.

Disadvantages:

Bloody awkward to fit them all in, when you're on the move all the time

Easy to eat protein and carbs without lots of fruits and vege's. Sometimes you just forget to eat them, or dont have enough time to prepare and cook 'em

I really cant think of much else except it can be a pain in the ass to find the time.

Overall, it's subjective. Some people say it helps, some people say it doesnt. I personally see it as more beneficial 'cause the advantages outweigh the disadvantages.

Just drink diet soda, eat small meals, get a bike (a BMX if you are cool), but eat well before you lift weights. Thats it. quit worrying about calculations of expected outcomes, everyone is different to begin with anyway. And eat as little sugar and bread as possible.

Not unless you're taking thermogenics or stimulants. The rate at which you sweat while working out is mostly genetic.

Sweating will probably sort it's self out slightly as your body starts to mature. Atleast thats what is happening with me.

I believe it's more hormonal than anything.
