I was born and raised in NJ for 27 years before moving up to Mass for grad school. I always knew NJ had a bad reputation, but thought it was just a bunch of nonsense.

Don't get me wrong, I do not HATE NJ and it is not that bad. However, once you live somewhere else (another state) you do start to realize there are way nicer places out there.

For example, Mass. is cleaner, more historic and more scenic than NJ. I can think of atleast 20 towns off the top of my head in NJ that are crime infested areas. Mass only has around 6 or 7 that I know of.

Also, look at all the "NJ is the armpit of America" and "New Jersey is a dump" websites out on Yahoo and Google.

I forgot to mention that alot of people in defense of NJ might say, yeah we have close access to NYC, Philly and we have Atlantic City.

Well, NYC is dirty, expensive, rude and has too much energy.

Both Philly and Atlantic City are crime infested s*it holes.

Boston is superior to all three..GREAT CITY!!

Ive been to new jersey to visit my sister in Forked river. Its not bad, then again she lives in the wealthier areas where their are mostly old rich people. so its very peaceful. but its great she lives in an $ 800,000 house with her spouse and the house is huge! its right in front of the creek and they have a large yawt! I guess you can say their millionaires since my brother in law is a doctor. but other than that its very quiet and cold and I dont like cold weather so I prefer South Florida.

I called into the Bloomberg 1130 call-in show because they did a cute segment on a new "slogan" for NJ.
Mine was provocative - "New Jersey - disarmed and still dangerous."
"Why do you say that?" they asked.
"Because they have some of the strictest gun laws, and crime remains out of control in many of the cities."
"Well, we're not going to get into a gun control debate here... blah, blah, blah..."

Tell her a little about yourself, but not too much. Maintain some mystery. Give her something to think about and wonder about when she's at home.
