Not doing favors. Good or bad?

So two days ago, a girl in my english class asked me to help her throw away her trash too as I was returning/walking to my desk after I had thrown away my garbage.

This is what happened:

"Hey buddy, can you throw this away for me *laugh*?

I said "How 'bout you throw away my garbage."

And she mustered a disgusted look.

Should I have done that common courtesy? Or would I have looked like a wimp? Is it smart to act this way to everybody? Or just the ****y girls?

What's the deal? Are you into this girl?

Or was this a case of, "Uh-oh, cute girl talking to me...gotta be ****y-funny...SoSuave says so..."

When it comes to asking favours i find it really depends on the circumstances, if she's asking me to go out of my way to do something she could easily do herself, i'll usually laugh at her in a joking way, and say 'you're so lazy, do it yourself' I usually get a smile when i say this because they know they're being unreasonable, but if it's a case of me already going to get something, and she asks me to get her one too (like picking up a piece of paper from the front of the class or something) then i usually get it, and then make some kind of joke when i'm giving it to her.

You reacted, instead of played. When she said that, you could have said something like "Well well, couldn't you have said that a little earlier? If you had, I might have actually considered ... " <big smile> (esspecially the last one is important, but when you're playing it sorta comes naturally) ...

sounds like something that happened to me today.

yesterday i was about to go out to lunch, and htis new co-worker kindly asked if i could pick up a muffin along the way. she gave me cash, and i got it for her after my lunch on th way back.

today after i got back from lunch, i got myself a soda. Then she mentions something about how i couldve gotten her a muffin. then i reply " i just got back!?" (seeing as how she didnt mention anything to me about it, she can only blame herself.)

and a few mins later she runs out to get one, apparently she's starved.

Anyway, favors should be earned. And no one should be taken advantage of like that.

if you dont have to go out of your way to help someone, sure help them once in awhile! no harm in doing good. but there's harm in doing too much good....you lose your self-respect.

You could've done her a favor that time but next time she asks for one you tell her she still owes you for the last time.

Throw away garbage? What is this grade school? It doesn't matter. If i'm closer to the receptical then she is then I'd do it, but if I had to go out of my way to get there then I wouldn't because it's inconvient not because I'll look bad.

Either way it's inconcequential, your story is breif and the whole situation seems meaningless.

Your response was ok. My response would be . .

What are you gonna do for me?

Comote said it well. The above line "What will you do for me?" works EVERY TIME.

The key is in the underlying attitude and what you communicate towards the girl. "I will do this favour to you, but I'm not that easy. Better be prepared to handle me!"

Many guys who get into the game tend to confuse "not being an AFC, not supplicating" with plain rudeness. There is a thin line between the two, but if you fall to the side of "rudeness" you can say bye to your chances just like an AFC!

not long after i do a favor for a girl i make her do one for me. i try to mirror the level. if i throw out some trash for her i might ask her later if she got some gum and then if i feel like ****ing with her i might turn down the gum and say that flavor isn't any good.
