You're forgetting eggs. 5 or 6 eggs. :)

But seriously, why not just buy some whey protein and shove a few eggs in?

The thing about gaining weight is, as you know, you have to consume lots of calories and protein. To do that as easily as possible it's best to have a way of consuming lots of protein at once. At some point, eating beef, tuna and eggs gets tiresome and time consuming, so you turn to shakes to get the cals and protein down.

So it's fair enough trying to make your own shake, but how much protein will that shake above really contain? I'd say less than 20g of complete protein.

So it's easier to get extra protein in with whey or other protein powder. Yeah.. :)

And not only that but I'm sure the shake you are making with all those ingredients probably costs more than just buying some.

I notice a lot of people put peanut butter in the shakes. When I look at the label, that stuff, 75% of the calories are from fat alone, and of that, 25% being saturated fat. Is peanut butter something we should do without?

whoever said fat or saturated fat was a bad thing??

there are reasons to avoid peanut butter (if you feel so inclined to be anal about phytoestrogens) but the fat content or composition is NOT one of them..

this fat phobia has got to stop - but I doubt it ever will.

I'm not fat phobic, trust me, one of my great pleasures is a heaping cup of vanilla ice cream mixed with butterfinger topping from Coldstone. But what about the the fact that 75% of the calories are from fat? I like peanut butter, I'm just wondering if it can be considered good for you or if it should be considered a dessert food.

I mean fat on a daily basis as a large component of your dietary intake.. as opposed to just an ice cream here or there.

Hell, olive oil is 100% fat and that's one of the very best things you can have..

Peanut butter is good for you, during a mass gain phase I'll go through a jar a day .. ;)

(But then again so is ice cream in the right circumstances.)

Peanut butter is fine, and out of 16g fat, only 3.5 sat is not a problem at all, and that is in 2 Tbsp

I eat it all day.

The fat phobia wont ever stop. You tell people you take a Tbsp of canola oil, and they go  your gulping down fat. :kick:

No reason to avoid PB either. That phytoestrogen bull crap nonsense is just that. I even debated that issue on Soy Isolate many, many years ago.

You're a smart guy Warboss, and I hope no one fed you that garbage about phyto and PB out of all things. I wish that topic got dropped.

Anyway... Eat your PB everyone. Want a good one, get the Skippy Natural. No stir and about $1.96 at Wal-mart.

Whether to be worried or not about phytoestrogens is another topic altogether, so let's not go into that here.

I was dismissive of the PB-haters at first (I even found one source claiming that the type of fats it contained were insulinogenic) but then Poliquin made a point of telling us not to eat it, which made me think for a while.

My opinion as it stands at the moment is that there may be benefits in avoiding it, but the evidence is not conclusive enough for me to totally eliminate it from my diet.

PB+J's rock!

And that's the thing. I think the data is inconclusive in the whole phyto deal, and from what I have studied and read. Plus i've also read the WHOLE opposite about its benefits really. The other debate was that look at Asians who or others who eat TONS of soy, and more than we do (Americans) they dont have gyno, they dont turn feminine, etc etc.

But phyto aside, my guess is you're more likely to get sick, die or anything else before your PB affects you.

That Oreo cakester I just ate (cheat day) prob just did more harm than the PB in a course of a month. lol

I like to do the PB burrito. Take a tortilla shell, warm it, then put PB around it, little bit of honey, sliced bananas and then raisins, roll it up and you have a power PB burrito. Pretty good really.

soy is a whole other topic as well!

As far as PB is concerned, there's far worse things you can do to yourself.. let's all keep eating it, so at least if we die from it, we all die. :D

serious note - I don't think much of PB as a protein source but to complement another complete or incomplete protein it can do a job. for fat it's fine.

They DO NOT eat tons of soy. More than most? Probably. Lots? No where close.
