After a long hiatus, I’ve decided to dip into the dating pool again.
I’ve had dating profiles on Tinder / Bumble / Happn for years that have mostly been dormant apart from a couple of uninstall for 3 months and then installed again.

When initially setup I didn’t put photos / complete the profile for a few months as it was a half hearted attempt.

I’ve not had many matches with attractive women in that time and I wonder if the algorithms that these apps are using have shadow banned / not showing my profile.

Currently using an iPhone and thinking of getting an Android to install the dating apps on with new number, email address and newer better pictures so that the profile is completely new with no trace back to the old profile for existing algorithms to link to.

Do you think this is worthwhile?

Also I’ve paid a couple of times and got an initial boost of likes and matches only to fade. I got the impression that these dating apps are scammers and I’ve not paid in years.

What are your thoughts and experiences of free vs paid on these apps?

PS Also planning an in person approach of a woman I regularly see at the local supermarket where we’ve smiled and waved for a long time now.

No, I don't think it is worthwhile.

It's unlikekly you are shadowbanned. You are de-prioritized if you're a non-paying member. Even paying members have a low match rate (see below).

You're also 56 years old. In the swipe app world, you're too old to get a lot of matches with attractive. Most women will filter you out of the card stack due to your advanced age.

Male who use apps need to pay in order to get the unlimited swipes. Most men have a lousy match rate on their right swipes. Mid tier looking men only match with around 1% of all right swipes. Men in the 90th percentile + have a much better match rate, but it's difficult to be a 90th percentile + man. Tinder limits to 100 free swipes a day and Bumble/Hinge also having swiping/liking limits on free accounts.

Getting unlimited swipes gives you a better chance of having enough volume to get sufficient prospects to get dates.

You should have approached her the 1st or 2nd time after a smile & wave.
