Hey guys, I just posted here for the first time in the main forum as I'm a HUGE H&F member in another forum

I have helped over a dozen guys make MASSIVE gains in the last year or two, a few guys including myself, are repping over 400lb squats, and 2 have passed the 500 mark, but most of the FAQ was written by me so if you read it, it will show my credibility

I always look to gain new knowledge, and fresh set of minds should help me! and as always, knowledge is free to pass on, so ask away if you desire, either way I hope to settle in around here!

Is it true that the best time to do cardio for fat loss is in the morning a little after you wake up and on an empty stomach?

this is always a big topic of debate, but it basically comes down to 2 things:

1. what are your goals.
2. which do you prefer.

first off, I'll start a HUGE controversy by saying..........I NEVER EVER do cardio, I keep my bodyfat down with diet alone, and in bulking season, I still never get over 11-12%.

with that said, if you like waking up in the morning and running, do it early, and make sure there is at least 3-4 meals in between running and lifting.

again, with that said....... I always recommend cardio after lifting, lifting is going to require more energy, so when that's gone, and your blood/sugar is low, then run, it will tell your long term fat stores to burn rather than your short term stores.

just remember, running a few miles is only going to burn ~500cals each time, building major muscle growth will increase your metabolism and burn more muscle much more efficiently

whew! dont worry, I don't usually have long answers like that lol

Dont you need cardio to stay healthy?

The most important thing after lifting is recovey, why would you do cardio in that time?

There is no way I could to cardio after squats.

recovery is a long term thing, at least 3-4 days, so you don't have to worry there

not to mention heavy lifting is going to effect slow twitch deep muscle fibers, where running is going to effect fast twitch fibers.

and as I said before,I don't do cardio, so it's of no concern for me personally

you need cardio for cardiovascular health....not weight loss, weight loss is effected by diet, my heart seems to be in good shape, so I dont' do any extra heart exercise other than lifting

a lot of recovery is done post workout that's why your post workout shake is so important.

The low intensity cardio you should be doing if you don't want to lose muscle should use slow twitch fibers.

Cardiovascular health is very important!
Especially if you like to have sex for over an hour :D

WOAH WOAH! I haven't had sex for longer than 4 minutes since I was 21!!! :D
there are no definitives here, everyone is different, and like I said before I don't do any cardio, if you are running to lose weight, your attacking it from the wrong angle.

cardiovascular health IS very important, my heart rate is right 75% at my max, and my lifts last about 45 mins, so for me that perfect, I don't feel I need any more.

again, these are all what seem to work best, everyone is different, these are merely what have worked for me and my friends.

why don't you ask someone who knows what they're talking about, such as a doctor? [edit - not to derogate from the OP's purpose, i just mean in relation to the cardio controversy. i am sure the man knows what he is talking about and has made his choice]..
if you don't do cardio your heart muscle will not be strong enough to supply blood to the massively increased number of cells and more heavily stressed blood vessels that come from lifting. your heart will likely fail at age 35 or sooner. this happened to a very fit, very health conscious, non-juiced associate of mine. he was quite muscular and very healthy in all respects except one: his heart muscle was not trained to keep up with the training of the rest of his body. he dropped dead in the street two months ago while walking out of the office.
i have had this from two different doctors and a friend, her degree is in physiology and molecular biology and she squats more than me. you don't need to do more than HIIT or low intensity cardio at glycogen depletion but if you do nothing whilst simultaneously muscling up you will end up dead early. i think a famous strongman died recently as a result of this.

gym is not sufficient low intensity cardio conditioning to avoid life threatening cardiac deficiency when combined with a program aimed at growth/strength.
but each to his own.
