My parents went on vacation for about a week....I'm taking care of my parent's property and pet cats, fish and birds while they are gone....the problem I have is...my parents flight was delayed and my future wife and I have to catch a plane out of town to handle some wedding details in the bahammas...My parents are telling me that I have to stay until they get home because of the pets......I told them I have a neighbor who could watch them and they angrily said No...& told me that I don't care about them...after all they have done for me...They wouldn't flex at all..we kept going back and forth until I said ok...now, we'll be out of the money we paid for the tickets..and my fiancee's pissed...I'm 28 and she's 27.....After the wedding I'm moving out of the state and I'm wondering if their reaction is a result of the marriage and the move? What should I do? What do you think?

First off you should have started this thread with...

Okay here's the situation, my parents went away on a weeks vacation! (mad fresh prince skills!)

but seriously....thats a bit of an overraction, if I was your fiance I would wonder about you and what sort of man you are at 28 that you could be guilted by your folks like that. I think you should go live your life with your new woman and let your parents get over it. The bible says honor thy mother and father, not be a slave to them. You haven't done them any dishonor. Go.

That's funny...(Fresh Prince)
I have all the DJ skills...but I went into this marriage thing blind...I didn't realize I'd have issues with the parents....Are there any rules....or any books someone can recommend in dealing with these type of situations?

There are products called DampRid- they make ones that have crystals which absorb the moisture. You can find them at Lowe's or Home Depot for about $20.

For the mold, you need a product that will kill it. White distilled vinegar is a great, natural, inexpensive way to kill mold, and to deodorize. The vinegar smell dissipates as it dries.

This is not India. You may never get your parents out of your life but you don't always have to do what they say.

at some point, with all due respect to parents and family, you have to become a tribal leader, and build your life the way you want to.. as long as you are being open to any positive advice.
